Book Description
Materials metrology is the measurement science used for determining materials property data. An essential element is the symbiosis between the understanding of materials behaviour and the development of suit able measurement techniques which, through the provision of stand ards, enable design engineers and plant operators to acquire materials data of appropriate precision. This book is concerned only with those aspects of materials metrology and standards that relate to the design and performance in service ofstructuresand consumerproducts. Itdoes not consider their important role in the processing ofmaterials. Theeditorsare grateful for thecommitmentand patience oftheexperts who contributed the various chapters. In addition, help from staffin the Division ofMaterials Metrology, National Physical Laboratory, inassist ing with the task of refereeing the chapters is gratefully acknowledged. The production of this book was carried out as part of the Materials Measurement Programme of underpinning research financed by the United Kingdom Department ofTrade and Industry. Brian F. Book Description
Conventional materials, such as nickel based alloys, will not be able to match the required performance specifications for the future generation of high temperature materials. This book reviews the characteristics and potential of a wide range of candidate superalloy replacements, such as ceramics, intermetallics, and their composites. Particular attention is devoted to the problems of processing and design with these materials.

Book Description
The aim of this major reference work is to provide a first point of entry to the literature for the researchers in any field relating to structural integrity in the form of a definitive research/reference tool which links the various sub-disciplines that comprise the whole of structural integrity. Special emphasis will be given to the interaction between mechanics and materials and structural integrity applications. Because of the interdisciplinary and applied nature of the work, it will be of interest to mechanical engineers and materials scientists from both academic and industrial backgrounds including bioengineering, interface engineering and nanotechnology. The scope of this work encompasses, but is not restricted to: fracture mechanics, fatigue, creep, materials, dynamics, environmental degradation, numerical methods, failure mechanisms and damage mechanics, interfacial fracture and nano-technology, structural analysis, surface behaviour and heart valves. The structures under consideration include: pressure vessels and piping, off-shore structures, gas installations and pipelines, chemical plants, aircraft, railways, bridges, plates and shells, electronic circuits, interfaces, nanotechnology, artificial organs, biomaterial prostheses, cast structures, mining... and more. Case studies will form an integral part of the work.

Book Description
Failure prevention, residual life assessment and life extension of materials in components operating at high temperatures are becoming increasingly important problems in the modern power plant industry. These problems are covered, and industrial examples will be introduced to illustrate the applications of those subjects covered using the results from service records.

Book Description
Thermoforming of Single and Multilayer Laminates explains the fundamentals of lamination and plastics thermoforming technologies along with current and new developments. It focuses on properties and thermoforming mechanics of plastic films and in particular single and multilayered laminates, including barrier films. For environmental and economic reasons, laminates are becoming increasingly important as a replacement for solid sheets and paint finishes in many industries, including transportation, packaging, and construction. Yet the processes of film formability during the extensive deformation and elevated temperatures experienced in conventional processing technologies, such as thermoforming, are poorly understood by most engineers. This book covers production processes, such as extrusion, calendaring, and casting, as well as mechanical and impact testing methods. It also describes how testing protocols developed for metals can be leveraged for plastic films and laminates, and includes a thorough discussion on methods for performing optical strain analysis. Applications in transportation vehicles and packaging, including packaging for food, medical and electronics applications, sports equipment, and household appliances, are discussed. Safety, recycling and environmental aspects of thermoforming and its products complete the book. First comprehensive source of information and hands-on guide for the thermoforming of multilayered laminates Covers applications across such sectors as automotive, packaging, home goods, and construction Introduces new testing methods leveraging protocols used for metals
