A New Day
Author: Akinade Akintunde E. (ed.)
Publisher: Peter Lang
ISBN: 9781433104565
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 346
Book Description
The unprecedented resurgence, renewal, and rebirth of twenty-first century Christianity in postcolonial societies, such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America, calls for new insights, methodologies, and paradigms since the West can no longer be regarded as the sole citadel and cradle of the Christian faith. The Christian message has been reshaped and reappropriated in different contexts and cultures and, through this cross-cultural transmission and transformation, it has become a world religion. Contextualizing the Christian faith also entails decolonizing its theology, precepts, and dogma. These efforts continue to engender new initiatives and efforts in the intercultural, interconfessional, intercontinental, and interreligious dimensions of world Christianity. A New Day is a collection of essays in honor of Lamin Sanneh, one of the most adamant advocates and apostles of the radical change in the face of Christianity in the twenty-first century. The essays in this book by recognized scholars deal with issues, themes, and perspectives that are important for understanding Christianity as a world religious movement.

Book Description
Dr. Pedraja provides a most welcome introduction to Hispanic American theology. He has a gift for articulating complex theological ideas in clear and accessible prose. Here Pedraja moves beyond more limited works which have, nevertheless, proven their importance within North American theological circles. In this text, the author undertakes the systematician's task of describing the methods and themes of what has now become a mature school of thought. As a Protestant, Pedraja demonstrates a remarkable ability to articulate fairly the perspectives of the variety of voices within the Hispanic community and to identify the importance of the unique Hispanic voice for the larger project of Christian theology.

Missionary Disciples Going Forth with Joy: National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry - Discípulos Misioneros en Salida con Alegría: Plan Pastoral Nacional para el Ministerio Hispano/Latino
Author: United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Publisher: Our Sunday Visitor
ISBN: 1639661867
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 145
Book Description
This is a dual-language book, formatted with an English translation in the front and Spanish translation in the back. The Hispanic/Latino community is a blessing from God for the Church and for our country. During the last few decades in particular, Hispanics/Latinos have reinvigorated the life and mission of thousands of parishes and other Catholic institutions and organizations. Missionary Disciples Going Forth with Joy: National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry addresses the entire Church in the United States and seeks to strengthen the Church's response to the Hispanic/Latino presence, while embracing and fostering the contributions of Hispanic/Latino Catholics as missionary disciples serving the entire People of God. This document from the U.S. bishops comes in direct response to the priorities, recommendations, and pastoral insights generated during the V National Encuentro for Hispanic/Latino Ministry. Given the ongoing growth of the Hispanic/Latino population across the country, the establishment of Hispanic/Latino ministry in more parishes and other pastoral settings is a high priority. Included in the National Pastoral Plan are the following: The vision and pastoral guidelines that provide a strong foundation for Hispanic/Latino ministry intended for pastoral ministers and educators Pastoral strategies and priorities for dioceses, parishes, regions, and other pastoral settings for pastoral ministers at various levels of experience in Hispanic/Latino ministry National objectives and activities, led by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, for implementation over the next ten years Este es un libro en dos idiomas, formateado con una traducción al inglés al principio y una traducción al español al final.

Speaking of Spain
Author: Antonio Feros
Publisher: Harvard University Press
ISBN: 067497932X
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 380
Book Description
Momentous changes swept Spain in the fifteenth century. A royal marriage united Castile and Aragon, its two largest kingdoms. The last Muslim emirate on the Iberian Peninsula fell to Spanish Catholic armies. And conquests in the Americas were turning Spain into a great empire. Yet few in this period of flourishing Spanish power could define “Spain” concretely, or say with any confidence who were Spaniards and who were not. Speaking of Spain offers an analysis of the cultural and political forces that transformed Spain’s diverse peoples and polities into a unified nation. Antonio Feros traces evolving ideas of Spanish nationhood and Spanishness in the discourses of educated elites, who debated whether the union of Spain’s kingdoms created a single fatherland (patria) or whether Spain remained a dynastic monarchy comprised of separate nations. If a unified Spain was emerging, was it a pluralistic nation, or did “Spain” represent the imposition of the dominant Castilian culture over the rest? The presence of large communities of individuals with Muslim and Jewish ancestors and the colonization of the New World brought issues of race to the fore as well. A nascent civic concept of Spanish identity clashed with a racialist understanding that Spaniards were necessarily of pure blood and “white,” unlike converted Jews and Muslims, Amerindians, and Africans. Gradually Spaniards settled the most intractable of these disputes. By the time the liberal Constitution of Cádiz (1812) was ratified, consensus held that almost all people born in Spain’s territories, whatever their ethnicity, were Spanish.
