Book Description
Love, inner light, and calm thoughts, are far more precious than thrones, titles, and gilded chains. Courage increases the chances of success by creating opportunities, and always availing itself of them. In this sense, Fortune may be said to favour fools by those who, however prudent in their own opinion, are deficient in valour and enterprise. A good and wise man, for whom the praises of the judicious have procured a high reputation, proposes to himself certain objects, and adapting the right means to the right end attains them; but his objects, not being what the world calls fortune, neither money nor worldly rank, his admitted inferiors in moral and intellectual worth — but more prosperous in their worldly concerns — are said to have been favoured by fortune and be slighted. The moon waxes and wanes according to law; the clouds likewise, and all the manifold appearances connected with them are governed by certain laws no less than the phases of the moon. But the laws which determine the latter are known and calculable, while those of the former are hidden from us. When the sky is covered with black clouds, I am walking on in the dark, aware of no particular danger: all of a sudden, a gust of wind rends the cloud for a moment, and the moon emerging discloses to me a chasm or precipice, to the very brink of which I had advanced my foot. How lucky! How providential! Karma is the vessel of our person and character. Belief in the Law of Karma instils personal responsibility — a fruit from the past, a seed for the future. When one sees the inequalities of birth and fortune, of intellect and capacities, of the honour paid to fools and profligates, on whom fortune has heaped her favours by mere privilege of birth, and their nearest neighbour, with all his intellect and noble virtue perishing of want and for lack of sympathy. When one sees all this and has to turn away, helpless to relieve the undeserved suffering, his heart aching with the cries of pain around him — that blessed knowledge of Karma alone will prevent him from cursing life and men, as well as their supposed “creator.”

Book Description
The three hypostases of Universal Law are: 1. Karma-action makes the world go ’round. 2. Yajna-compassion / sacrifice is the very first conscious yearning. 3. Yugas-cycles are subservient to Karma. Motion is Nous and vice versa. From Chaos Nous was born to bring order. Madame Blavatsky quoting Plato on the motion that is able to move itself. Cicero quoting Plato on That which is always moved, being eternal. Taylor commenting on Plato’s rational soul that imparts well-being to itself, when it cultivates and perfects itself. Motion is unmanifested and manifested. Motion unmanifested is Parabrahman, Eternal Universal Motion. It is the Eternal Breath “which knows itself not,” Absolute Motion. When Motion is about to be manifested (First to Second Logos), the Eternal Breath thrills through the first manifested Atom (Monad), or “Æthereal Vibrations diffused throughout Space,” which is the Central Point (Unmanifested Logos) in the circle. Motion manifested (Third Logos) is the Ideal World. It is one everlasting perpetual motion of vortical vibrations. Motion becomes apparent in the Material World — ceaseless eternal vibration: rapid in the inorganic, slow in the organic. Deity is Law and vice versa. Matter is Nature and vice versa, She is the vessel or soul of spirit. Generation is not a “Creation” of Life, but a production of things to Sense, and making them manifest. Neither is Change Death, but an Occultation or hiding of that which was. Nature is uncontrolled by proud masters. She runs the universe by herself without the aid of gods. But Earth is our mother and kind nurse. Cyclic Law makes empires rise and fall, ever alternating periods of fat and slender cows, for all. Consciousness evolves spirally in curves that never re-enter into themselves. At certain periods, a preview of Its consummation may be glimpsed.

Book Description
How many of our distinguished scientists have derived honour and credit by merely dressing up the ideas of those old philosophers, whom they are ever ready to disparage, is left to an impartial posterity to say. An era of disenchantment and rebuilding has already begun. The cycle has almost run its course; a new one is about to begin, and the future pages of history may convey full proof of the above. The “Primal Being” is an emanation of the Demiurgic or Universal Mind, which contains from eternity the idea of the “to be created world” within Itself, which idea the Unmanifested Logos produces of itself. The first Idea, “born in darkness before the creation of the world,” remains in the Unmanifested Mind; the second Idea, a reflection from the Universal Mind, becomes clothed with matter and assumes objective existence.

Book Description
The Unknowable is neither a “force behind phenomena,” nor some kind of energy storehouse. It is essentially the same as our Consciousness, persisting unchanging in quantity, but ever changing in form. It has no kinship of nature with Evolution. Only the First Cause and its direct emanations, our spirits (scintillas from the eternal central sun which will be reabsorbed by it at the end of time), are incorruptible and eternal. All else is illusion, corruptible and ephemeral — the heresy and legacy of separateness. Divine thought cannot be defined, or its meaning explained, except by the numberless manifestations of Cosmic Substance in which the former is sensed spiritually by those who [if intellectually and ethically fit] can do so. Out of an Unknowable and Ever-Concealed Centre, Consciousness keeps unfolding, and infusing through the totality of artefacts: the mental agitates the molecular and mixes itself with the magnificent corporeal. Spirit and Matter are emanations of the One Reality, That Perfect Unmanifested Consciousness, or Non-Being. It is and It will remain forever unknown and unknowable. Personal consciousness is a differentiation in space and time of a ray of Universal Consciousness. On the subjective side is the One Life. On the objective, myriads of lives “immanent in every atom of Matter.” Matter is ever becoming, according to ideal forms. The Kabbalists never cease to repeat that primal intelligence can never be understood. It cannot be comprehended, nor can it be located, therefore it has to remain nameless and negative. When Logos reposes in the bosom of Parabrahman, It cannot see Parabrahman other than as Mulaprakriti, that “mighty expanse of cosmic matter” which veils Parabrahman from even the highest Logoic perceptions. Parabrahman is ever unknown to Logos, as It is to ourselves. Over and around, higher and lower, within and without, Unknown Intelligence sustains the Great Architect of the Universe, the Creative Deities, and all creatures. It is the “Spirit” of “God” that keeps moving upon the face of the waters of “Creation.” The “Eternal Breath” cannot know Itself by Itself because it is devoid of self-consciousness. Neither can the Infinite know the Finite, for that matter. It can only know aspects of Itself through Its acting powers. Nor Scripture lays down a set of definitions any more than Nature does. Karma is one with the Unknowable, an Absolute and Eternal Law in the World of manifestation. Karma is the Unknown Deity of the old Athenians, the One Law for All, and vice versa. The highest Deity is subject to this Law, or rather it is the Law of the Deity.
