Book Description
The overall objective of this research is to develop a decision support framework for preventive maintenance program implementations in the offshore operational environment of the oil and gas industry. The author investigates the problems surrounding the maintenance decision-making process, which elements are systematically identified and categorized, including organizational aspects. The interface with operations is considered in order to promote integration between maintenance and production schedules. The research subjacent objectives have been to identify, among major oil and gas offshore operators, the state-of-practices regarding the maintenance decision-making process and identify, in the literature, the main techniques used for maintenance decisions and optimization in order to propose alternatives for supporting future implementations. Through a Systems Engineering approach, assisted by a literature review, interviews with experts (in Norway and in Brazil), an on-line survey and case studies, the results of this research complement a toolkit for maintenance engineers and managers aiming to facilitate information sharing and interdisciplinary cooperation in the operational environment. Among the results: A concept map for the maintenance decision-making process ontology; A plan for PM program implementations; The suggested cross-sector solution: the minimum equipment list; A Markovian dependability nomogram; and A Markov decision model application.

Book Description
This book addresses remaining life prediction and predictive maintenance of equipment. It systematically summarizes the key research findings made by the author and his team and focuses on how to create equipment performance degradation and residual life prediction models based on the performance monitoring data produced by currently used and historical equipment. Some of the theoretical results covered here have been used to make remaining life predictions and maintenance-related decisions for aerospace products such as gyros and platforms. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable reference guide for those pursuing theoretical or applied research in the areas of fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control, remaining life prediction, and maintenance decision-making.

Book Description
Production costs are being reduced by automation, robotics, computer-integrated manufacturing, cost reduction studies and more. These new technologies are expensive to buy, repair, and maintain. Hence, the demand on maintenance is growing and its costs are escalating. This new environment is compelling industrial maintenance organizations to make the transition from fixing broken machines to higher-level business units for securing production capacity. On the academic front, research in the area of maintenance management and engineering is receiving tremendous interest from researchers. Many papers have appeared in the literature dealing with the modeling and solution of maintenance problems using operations research (OR) and management science (MS) techniques. This area represents an opportunity for making significant contributions by the OR and MS communities. Maintenance, Modeling, and Optimization provides in one volume the latest developments in the area of maintenance modeling. Prominent scholars have contributed chapters covering a wide range of topics. We hope that this initial contribution will serve as a useful informative introduction to this field that may permit additional developments and useful directions for more research in this fast-growing area. The book is divided into six parts and contains seventeen chapters. Each chapter has been subject to review by at least two experts in the area of maintenance modeling and optimization. The first chapter provides an introduction to major maintenance modeling areas illustrated with some basic models. Part II contains five chapters dealing with maintenance planning and scheduling. Part III deals with preventive maintenance in six chapters. Part IV focuses on condition-based maintenance and contains two chapters. Part V deals with integrated production and maintenance models and contains two chapters. Part VI addresses issues related to maintenance and new technologies, and also deals with Just-in-Time (JIT) and Maintenance.

Book Description
Maintenance decisions impact company's costs and profits in various ways. These decisions can be incurred as a part of everyday repairs or heavy replacements or as an investment in future asset or technology. Large corporations with physical assets have maintenance practices to ensure proper operations and to minimize costs. With innovation and development, it is possible to improve the maintenance practices to implement a more effective future technology. These changes may require significant investment decisions, and therefore, it becomes critical for decision-makers to use the best available information with respect to market conditions and potential benefits of every future option under consideration. In this study, condition-based maintenance practice is analyzed in different scenarios, both qualitatively and quantitatively. A strategic maintenance decision for future investment is evaluated using real options approach. The proposed framework is then explored for the airline and trucking industries.

Book Description
Serving to unify the existing literature on extended warranties, maintenance service contracts and lease contracts, this book also presents a unique perspective on the topic focussed on cost analysis and decision-making from the perspectives of the parties involved. Using a game theoretic approach together with mathematical modelling, results are presented in an integrated manner with key topics that require further research highlighted in order to serve as a starting point for researchers (engineers and statisticians) who are interested in doing further work in these areas. Designed to assist practitioners (managers, engineers, applied statisticians) who are involved with extended warranties, maintenance service contracts and lease contracts, the book provides them with the models and techniques needed for proper cost analysis and effective decision-making, The book is also suitable for use as a reference text in industrial engineering, applied statistics, operations research and management.

Book Description
Authors have attempted to create coherent chapters and sections on how the fundamentals of maintenance cost should be organized, to present them in a logical and sequential order. Necessarily, the text starts with importance of maintenance function in the organization and moves to life cycle cost (LCC) considerations followed by the budgeting constraints. In the process, they have intentionally postponed the discussion about intangible costs and downtime costs later on in the book mainly due to the controversial part of it when arguing with managers. The book will be concluding with a short description of a number of sectors where maintenance cost is of critical importance. The goal is to train the readers for a deeper study and understanding of these elements for decision making in maintenance, more specifically in the context of asset management. This book is intended for managers, engineers, researchers, and practitioners, directly or indirectly involved in the area of maintenance. The book is focused to contribute towards better understanding of maintenance cost and use of this knowledge to improve the maintenance process. Key Features: • Emphasis on maintenance cost and life cycle cost especially under uncertainty. • Systematic approach of how cost models can be applied and used in the maintenance field. • Compiles and reviews existing maintenance cost models. • Consequential and direct costs considered. • Comparison of maintenance costs in different sectors, infrastructure, manufacturing, transport.
