Lubricating Oils for Jet Engines
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 237
Book Description
The report describes briefly the construction and principles of operation of aviation gas turbine engines, their assemblies and friction points, and also the oil systems. Operating conditions of lubricants in these engines are discussed, as are the functions of oils as lubricating materials, the functions of operating liquids and cooling agents; technical specifications required of lubricants are discussed. Questions are discussed related to the assortment and quality of oils currently employed for aviation gas turbine engines and the requirements for oils of the near future. Methods are described for obtaining from petroleum and synthetics high-quality oils which possess high anti-oxidation, viscosity-temperature, anti-wear and other properties. Information is presented concerning additives which improve the operational properties of oils for aviation gas turbine engines. Domestic and foreign methods of investigating and testing oils under laboratory conditions, and also in special stands and devices are systematized and described.

Lubrication Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines
Author: Ion Stiharu
Publisher: Wiley-Blackwell
ISBN: 9781119979654
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 350
Book Description
Lubrication Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines presents a systematic approach to the lubrication systems of generic aircraft gas turbine engines. This topic requires a dedicated approach due to the constraints and requirements imposed by the propulsion system that include high sustained operating temperatures and speeds, mass constraints for the lubrication system and its ancillary components required for heat management,, filtering and sealing of the lubricant. These requirements are not discussed in tribology texts and the solution to such problems is often non-tribology related but heat transfer or two-phase flow related. The editors have collated vital research and methodology, and present the problems as well as current and potential future solutions to these problems in a systematic and consistent manner. The book is organized into eleven chapters covering the subject of lubrication in GTEs from systems to components. Advanced methods and tools used to evaluate the performance of lubrication systems are also introduced. Lubrication Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines is addressed to researchers and graduate students who are interested in lubrication aspects related to aircraft GTEs as well as lubrication problems and solutions in general. It also represents an excellent reference for practicing engineers who work in lubrication systems and components from design to test and maintenance.

Evaluation of Gas Turbine Engine Lubricant Compatibility with Elastomer Slabs - Long Duration Test
Author: E-34 Propulsion Lubricants Committee
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This test method provides procedures for exposing specimens of elastomer material (slab form) representative to those used in gas turbine engines to aviation lubricants under extended duration and engine relevant thermal conditions. For AS5780 requirements the time is at least 1800 hours and temperatures are 100 °C to 160 °C. Positive volume change is an indication of specimen swell and subsequent negative volume change is an indication of specimen deterioration, both properties are important in the evaluation of the compatibility of the lubricant with elastomers used in the construction of the gas turbine. This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice is intended to determine the compatibility of aviation propulsion system grade elastomers with the aviation lubricants that they may be exposed to during service, such as AS5780 Gas Turbine Engine Lubricants. Properties of such elastomeric materials may deteriorate during exposure to aviation lubricants, thereby affecting their performance capabilities and potentially result in part failure. This test was initially developed as a Safran Aircraft Engine test used to approve new synthetic turbine oils.
