Book Description
The present volume "Rare Earth Elements" A 6b deseribes in its first part the origin, mode of oeeurrenee, and behavior of Y and/or RE elements in the hydrosphere and atmos phere. Separately for marine and non-marine environments (surfaee, subsurfaee, mineral, and thermal waters), the behavior of RE (ineluding Y) in the hydrosphere eomprises espeeially the relationship between eontentleomposition and the ehemistry of water, and the processes aeting during migration, removal, and preeipitation are outlined; the influenee of biologieal material is mentioned. Behavior of RE in the atmosphere involves mainly transport, regional differenees, and temporal variations as weil as removal by preeipitation; the anthropogenie influenee is only outlined. The seeond part of this volume treats, partly in a more summary manner, the eosmo and geoehemieal eyeles and the balance of Y and/or RE elements. The relationship between geodynamie position and type of magmatism, as weil as the geoehemieal variations in the geospheres, especially mantle and erust of the earth, are deseribed in greater detail.

Book Description
Based on Lu Xun's works and book collections, this book explores the significant influence of Russian literature, art, and thinking on Lu Xun's thoughts and works. Through the analysis of rich historical materials and literary texts, this book shows the profound influence of Russian literary and artistic resources on Chinese writers, especially on Lu Xun. It delves into Lu Xun's literary and translation concepts, as well as his intellectual and aesthetic views, all of which bear the imprint of Russian culture. The author closely examines notable themes in his works, including nationality, class, the avant-garde, and cosmopolitanism, which offer insight into his overarching historical vision and provide a glimpse into the era. Unlike previous studies of the influence of Russian literature, this book delves deeper into literary history by examining intellectual history without adhering to a pan-ideological point of view. Through the lens of cultural history, it also illuminates the cultural landscape of modern China, unraveling the intellectual ideas and debates of the twentieth century and the emergence of Chinese left-wing literature. The title will appeal to scholars, students, and general readers interested in Lu Xun studies, modern Chinese literature, and Chinese culture.

Book Description
The volume "Rare Earth Elements" C10 deals with the rare earth tellurides, oxide tellurides, tellurates, telluride halides, tellurate halides, sulfide tellurides, selenide tellurides, and alkali rare earth tellurates. Another topic of this volume are the compounds of the rare earth elements with polonium. Sofaras meaningful and as in all earlier volumes of "Rare Earth Elements" Series C ("Seltenerdelemente" Reihe C), comparative data are presented in sections preceding treatment of the individual compounds and systems. Gaseous telluride molecules are described in the first section. The subsequent sections deal mainly with the chemical and physical properties of the solid tellurides, of which SmTe, EuTe, and TmTe play the most important rote. The most prominent feature of SmTe is the pressure-induced valence transition from divalent Sm to the intermediate valence state, similar to SmSe (see "Rare Earth Elements" C9). Main topics of the section on EuTe are the magnetic and spectroscopic investigations, which show only antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperatures, unlike the complex magnetic properties of EuSe. The magnetic phase diagram, magnetic resonances, exchange interactions, and anisotropies have been ex tensively studied. A pressure-induced valence change is also observed in TmTe with divalent Tm under ambient conditions. The valence changewas also reached by alloying with TmSe. The oxide tellurides have been studied less intensively than the other oxide chalcogenides and only the type M0 Te is known. Data on preparation, crystallographic, and magnetic 2 2 properties dominate this section.

Book Description
This book studies one of the most important figures in modern Chinese intellectual history, China's greatest modern writer, Lu Xun (1881-1936). His trenchant criticisms of the China of his day still speak directly to what can be called, without hyperbole, the current crisis in philosophical and political thought in the People's Republic. It is also a study of a non-Western intellectual's struggle--in a time of crisis--to make practical sense of the "Darwinian Revolution," a revolution not limited to the West. Although Lu Xun died more than sixty years ago, his work is still alive in China (more so than any American writer of the 1920s and 1930s is in the United States). He is viewed paradoxically as both an official icon and as a patron saint of dissent. This book is, therefore, about Lu Xun both in his lifetime and in his second lifetime--and it looks to his third. But it is not just about Lu Xun. It is about Lu Xun and evolution. As a philosophical critique of Lu Xun's thought, it looks to Lu Xun's struggle to make practical sense of evolution, a contradiction that forces "either/or" questions on the Chinese, and on us all.

Book Description
This book explores an extraordinary case of affirmative biopolitics through the study of Lu Xun (1881–1936), the most prominent cultural figure of modern China. Diverging from the Enlightenment-humanist framework in reference to which Lu Xun is commonly interpreted, it demonstrates how his thinking is defined by a naturalistic conception of culture that is best understood in the global context of what Foucault defines as the biological turn of modernity. In comparison to ontologically-grounded modern Western theories of life, it brings to light the deep connection between Lu Xun’s affirmative biopolitics and the epistemic ground of Chinese tradition―what is known as correlative thinking. Combining close readings of literary texts with a theoretical consideration of broader issues of culture, this book is an essential read for scholars and students who are interested in Lu Xun, modern Chinese intellectual history, comparative studies of Chinese and Western thought, and the question of affirmative biopolitics.
