Book Description
To determine the effects of various factors on low-cycle fatigue phenomena in connection with space vehicle design, axial tension fatigue tests up to 2000 cycles were conducted on titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, at -423 F. The effects of changing the minimum-to-maximum load ratio and cycling speed for the range tested were slight. The fatigue strength of pressure-welded specimens was within 1 per cent of that of the base metal. Fatigue strengths at -423 F were 65 to 68 per cent higher than those at room temperature.

Book Description
This report is a bibliography of the work reported in the literature on the effects of low temperature on the properties of structural materials. Some of the newer areas of cryogenic technology such as superconducting machinery involve environments which may subject the components to temperature as low as 4 K. Exposure of structural materials to such low temperatures affects their properties. This bibliography contains 963 references published between 1950-1976, arranged in chronological/alphabetical order. Combined material/property indexes are provided. (Author).

Book Description
Support from the National Science Foundation has made it possible for the tenth annual Cryogenic Engineering Conference, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania and capably directed by K. R. Atkins and his staff, to emphasize the major international advances in cryogenic engineering. This specific emphasis resulted in a final program of over one hundred papers and has made it necessary to publish the proceedings of the conference in two volumes. The first volume will be similar in nature to previous volumes in this series, while the second volume will feature the international aspect of the conference program. The latter volume, because of this distinction, will be entitled International Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. As in the past, the Cryogenic Engineering Conference Committee gratefully acknow ledges the assistance of all the dedicated workers in the cryogenic field who have contributed their time in reviewing the preliminary papers for the program and the final manuscripts for this volume. Since the list of participants in this thankless task numbers well over one hundred, any attempt to acknowledge their individual contributions in the limited space available would be practically impossible.

Book Description
Fundamentals of Multiscale Modeling of Structural Materials provides a robust introduction to the computational tools, underlying theory, practical applications, and governing physical phenomena necessary to simulate and understand a wide-range of structural materials at multiple time and length scales. The book offers practical guidelines for modeling common structural materials with well-established techniques, outlining detailed modeling approaches for calculating and analyzing mechanical, thermal and transport properties of various structural materials such as metals, cement/concrete, polymers, composites, wood, thin films, and more.Computational approaches based on artificial intelligence and machine learning methods as complementary tools to the physics-based multiscale techniques are discussed as are modeling techniques for additively manufactured structural materials. Special attention is paid to how these methods can be used to develop the next generation of sustainable, resilient and environmentally-friendly structural materials, with a specific emphasis on bridging the atomistic and continuum modeling scales for these materials. - Synthesizes the latest cutting-edge computational multiscale modeling techniques for an array of structural materials - Emphasizes the foundations of the field and offers practical guidelines for modeling material systems with well-established techniques - Covers methods for calculating and analyzing mechanical, thermal and transport properties of various structural materials such as metals, cement/concrete, polymers, composites, wood, and more - Highlights underlying theory, emerging areas, future directions and various applications of the modeling methods covered - Discusses the integration of multiscale modeling and artificial intelligence
