Book Description
"Here lies one whose name was writ in water". This is the phrase the English Romantic poet Keats desired to be inscribed on his tombstone. Just this phrase; he did not even want his name to appear on his tombstone; merely this line. Keats wanted simply the above phrase on his tombstone for by the time his death was near, he was embittered with life and believed he would soon be forgotten. But, contrary to it, more than two hundred years after his death, he is still remembered as one of the greatest English Romantic poets ever. This book, the second in the "Last Words Series", deals with the fascinating account of the 'Life, Death, and Last Words' of the English Romantic poet John Keats (31 October 1795 -- 23 February 1821). Keats came to this world on a short visit. He was just over 25 when he died.

Book Description
This eBook edition of "Ode to a Nightingale" has been formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. "Ode to a Nightingale" is either the garden of the Spaniards Inn, Hampstead, London, or, according to Keats' friend Charles Armitage Brown, under a plum tree in the garden of Keats House, also in Hampstead. According to Brown, a nightingale had built its nest near his home in the spring of 1819. Inspired by the bird's song, Keats composed the poem in one day. It soon became one of his 1819 odes and was first published in Annals of the Fine Arts the following July. "Ode to a Nightingale" is a personal poem that describes Keats's journey into the state of Negative Capability. The tone of the poem rejects the optimistic pursuit of pleasure found within Keats's earlier poems and explores the themes of nature, transience and mortality, the latter being particularly personal to Keats. The nightingale described within the poem experiences a type of death but does not actually die. Instead, the songbird is capable of living through its song, which is a fate that humans cannot expect. John Keats (1795-1821) was an English Romantic poet. The poetry of Keats is characterized by sensual imagery, most notably in the series of odes. Today his poems and letters are some of the most popular and most analyzed in English literature.

Book Description
A Los Angeles Times Favorite Book and a Washington Post Best of 2008: “A book worthy of Keats—full of feeling and drama and those fleeting moments we call genius.”—Ted Genoways, Washington Post Book World John Keats’s famous epitaph—”Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water”—helped cement his reputation as the archetype of the genius cut off before his time. In this close narrative study, Stanley Plumly meditates on the chances for poetic immortality, an idea that finds its purest expression in Keats. Incisive in its observations and beautifully written, Posthumous Keats is an ode to an unsuspecting young poet—a man who, against the odds of his culture and critics, managed to achieve the unthinkable: the elevation of the lyric poem to sublime and tragic status.
