Excerpt from Letters on Our Affairs With Spain The United States seem to be involved with Spain in a misunderstanding of which our citizens in general have but an imperfect knowledge. We purpose to notice the causes of this misunderstanding between the two countries, and, that we may acquit ourselves, in some measure, to the satisfaction of the reader, in the discussion of subjects in their nature extremely intricate, respect will be paid to perspicuity and conciseness.
