Originaire de l’île de Téos, Anacréon, fut le poète favori des tyrans Polycrate de Samos, mort vers 520 avant J.-C., et Hipparque d’Athène, assassiné en 514. De son œuvre authentique n’ont subsisté que des fragments. Les pièces réunies sous son nom, les Anacreonteia, ont été composées après sa mort par des imitateurs. La première traduction de ces poèmes en français a été réalisée par Henri Estienne en 1554. On a joint à cette traduction un glossaire des noms et des mots grecs réalisé par Alexandre Maupertuis. Ouvrage réalisé grâce à l’aimable concours de la Bibliothèque municipale de Rennes.
