L'esthétique est une demande de plus en plus courante dans les cabinets dentaires de la part de nos patients. De nombreux facteurs interviennent dans la réussite esthétique d'une restauration en céramique. L'enregistrement de la teinte, ou plus précisément de la couleur, lors de la réalisation d'une prothèse fixée est l'un des éléments clé du succès de la future couronne céramique. Pour le patient, la prothèse sera considérée comme satisfaisante seulement si elle donne l'illusion du naturel et qu'elle passe inaperçue pour lui et son entourage. Si le mimétisme n'est pas exactement similaire aux dents voisines, le résultat sera donc décevant. Le but de ce travail est de s'intéresser aux différents systèmes actuellement sur le marché, permettant d'enregistrer la couleur d'une dent. Nous allons voir que la lumière et la couleur sont intimement liées. De plus, nous nous intéresserons à la transmission de notre enregistrement au technicien de laboratoire, afin que ce dernier puisse réaliser une couronne céramique qui passe inaperçue dans la bouche du patient.

La communication entre dentiste et prothésiste est essentielle pour l’obtention de résultats satisfaisants en prothèse fixée. L’objectif devient vraiment compliqué à atteindre dans le cadre d’un travail d’intégration au sourire du patient, et notamment dans le cas d’une incisive centrale maxillaire unitaire. De nombreux moyens de transmission de la couleur au prothésiste existent de nos jours : du teintier classique aux méthodes plus avancées comme les spectrophotomètres ou les colorimètres en passant par les caméras intra-orales, et les lampes calibrées. Ces méthodes présentent néanmoins des limites et sont pour certaines très opérateurs dépendant. Une nouvelle technique d’enregistrement de teinte par prise photographique combiné à un protocole d’aide informatique émerge peu à peu. Celle-ci repose sur une standardisation des prises de vues afin de supprimer toute composante subjective d’un enregistrement. Cette thèse a pour objectif principal de comparer ce protocole émergeant, aux techniques usuelles, et d’en définir sa place parmi ces dernières.

De nombreux appareils, fonctionnant selon des techniques de colorimétrie et de spectrocolorimétrie, sont disponibles aujourd’hui afin d’assister le praticien. Ce travail propose, au travers d’une étude clinique, d’évaluer la fiabilité et la cohérence de résultats de trois d’entre eux.
