La Graunde Abridgement
Author:

ISBN: 9781584779711
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Reprint of first edition. Sir Robert Brooke [d.1558] was renowned for his great learning and probity as a judge. His Abridgement is based on Fitzherbert's Abridgement, but it contains much new material. In all, Brooke abridged nearly 21,000 cases and digested them alphabetically under 404 headings. It abridges fully the Year Books of Henry VII and Henry VIII. Brooke proceeded with great care and accuracy, and is believed to have had access to the original records of the Year Books. Coke calls the Abridgement "a worthy and painful work and an excellent repertory or table for the Year Books of the Law" (cited in Marvin's Legal Bibliography 151-52).

No State Shall Abridge
Author: Michael Kent Curtis
Publisher: Duke University Press
ISBN: 9780822310358
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
“The book is carefully organized and well written, and it deals with a question that is still of great importance—what is the relationship of the Bill of Rights to the states.”—Journal of American History “Curtis effectively settles a serious legal debate: whether the framers of the 14th Amendment intended to incorporate the Bill of Rights guarantees and thereby inhibit state action. Taking on a formidable array of constitutional scholars, . . . he rebuts their argument with vigor and effectiveness, conclusively demonstrating the legitimacy of the incorporation thesis. . . . A bold, forcefully argued, important study.”—Library Journal
