Book Description
They are true soldiers of fortune. Twenty-five years ago they walked away from a war. Now they sit atop an empire…built on the blood of those they have betrayed. Charles D. Taylor, bestselling author of BOOMER and SHADOW WARS delivers his most daring and dramatic suspense novel yet, as he unravels a web of greed, violence, and corruption stretching from the turmoil of Vietnam to the financial heart of Hong Kong to the top ranks of the Pentagon itself. Two MIA sightings a world apart — one in the Laotian jungle, the other at Washington's Vietnam War Memorial — have led Navy SEAL Commander Matthew Stone, working for the Defense Intelligence Agency, to the threshold of a conspiracy a quarter of a century old. It began in the Iron Triangle of Vietnam — Bravo Company — where a few men struck a deal with a corrupt CIA operative and chose the drug trade as their ticket out of the war. And from the seed of the opium poppy they built a vast multinational conglomerate, its tendrils of power and influence extending across the Pacific Rim of Asia. For twenty-five years they have been listed as missing in action; now they're willing to kill to stay missing forever. Commander Stone is compelled to action by his own sense of honor, and by the painful quest for truth of Leila Potter. Her brother, attached to Bravo Company, died in the Iron Triangle under mysterious circumstances. And neither she nor Stone will rest until the scattered clues are pieced together…and the missing brought to account.

Book Description
"A house in the center of Bangkok becomes the point of confluence where lives are shaped by upheaval, memory, and the lure of home. Witness to two centuries' flux in one of the world's most restless cities, a house plays host to longings and losses past, present, and future. A nineteenth-century missionary doctor pines for the comforts of New England even as he finds the vibrant foreign chaos of Siam increasingly difficult to resist. A post-war society woman marries, mothers, and holds court, little suspecting the course of her future. A jazz pianist is summoned in the 1970s to conjure music that will pacify resident spirits, even as he's haunted by ghosts of his former life. Not long after, a young woman gives swimming lessons in the luxury condos that have eclipsed the old house, trying to outpace the long shadow of her political past. And in the post-submergence Bangkok of the future, a band of savvy teenagers guides tourists and former residents past waterlogged, ruined landmarks, selling them tissues to wipe their tears for places they themselves do not remember. Time collapses as these stories collide and converge, linked by blood, memory, yearning, chance, and the forces voraciously making and remaking the amphibian, ever-morphing city itself"--Provided by publisher.

Looking afresh at everything from ceramics to Thai dance, flower patterns to old houses, Kerr reveals one of Asia's most kaleidoscopically complex cities. Another Bangkok will delight both those who think they know the city well and those visiting for the first time.

Book Description
During its secret war in Laos (1961–1975), the United States recruited proxy soldiers among the Hmong people. Following the war, many of these Hmong soldiers migrated to the United States with refugee status. In History on the Run Ma Vang examines the experiences of Hmong refugees in the United States to theorize refugee histories and secrecy, in particular those of the Hmong. Vang conceptualizes these histories as fugitive histories, as they move and are carried by people who move. Charting the incomplete archives of the war made secret through redacted US state documents, ethnography, film, and literature, Vang shows how Hmong refugees tell their stories in ways that exist separately from narratives of U.S. empire and that cannot be traditionally archived. In so doing, Vang outlines a methodology for writing histories that foreground refugee epistemologies despite systematic attempts to silence those histories.

Book Description
Greg Dinallo, the heralded author of Rockets’ Red Glare and Purpose of Evasion, has written his most chilling and disturbing thriller yet: A novel of intrigue that explores the emotionally charged issue of Vietnam War MIAs. Final Answers is provocative, authentic, and powerful fiction Among the 58,176 names etched on the long black wall of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC, are names of those who never came home—of MIAs whose families are still waiting for final answers. During a business trip to Washington, a veteran, now a statistics expert, has an experience at the Memorial that will shatter his carefully constructed life with the impact of a Claymore mine. Touching the names carved in the wall, he finds one all too familiar: his own. A. Calvert Morgan understands cold, hard numbers. But how did his name get on the wall? Morgan’s wife, Nancy, does some research for him that leads him to Kate Ackerman. Kate’s husband had been listed as missing in action after being shot down in Laos twenty years earlier; during those years, she has joined the National League of Families and become a dedicated MIA activist. At first, Morgan believes that he is part of a bizarre military snafu—a data entry error made in the field. But when Kate guides him to the Army’s Central Identification Lab in Hawaii, he begins to realize that his “death” was not an accident. In the war zone, another man took his name and serial number for his own —and then was killed. Morgan finds out that his impersonator was no ordinary GI He was, in fact, a key player in a macabre conspiracy that reaches back to the poppy fields of Laos. Morgan has set off a deadly alarm; the drug lord is still operating and has targeted him for elimination. Coming after Morgan—a man more comfortable with a computer than a handgun—the hit man commits a murder so brutal that Morgan’s life is turned into a raging fight for survival. From the San Francisco mortuary that received the bodies of American servicemen during the war to Southeast Asia in the ’90s, Morgan is venturing into ever more violent territory. And he is not alone. Kate Ackerman has joined him on a trip to Thailand—hopeful that her husband is still alive, his fate possibly linked to those who have targeted Morgan for death. Amid Bangkok’s steamy nightclubs and brackish, twisting canals, their quest pushes them into the jungle, across the Mekong River into Laos, where they move toward a brutal final answer to the mystery of Vietnam MIAs . . . Electrifying and filled with suspense, Final Answers confirms Greg Dinallo’s reputation as a novelist who poses daring questions, takes extraordinary risks, and delivers searing excitement from first page to last.
