Book Description
Laser Cleaning II is the second of a series of books reporting research on the use of lasers for cleaning material surfaces and related micro-scale and nano-scale laser processing. It follows Laser Cleaning, edited by Boris LukOCOyanchuk, published in 2002. The primary focus is on contaminant particle removal, nano-scale sized particles in particular, which represents a major cleaning challenge in industrial contexts and poses a broad range of research questions. The contributions provide stimulating answers to these questions, spanning the essential areas: the fundamental theoretical and experimental physics of light/particle/interface interactions, invention and development of laser cleaning techniques and diagnostics, simulations for important material and process systems, and laser cleaning and processing applications. Laser cleaning for art and cultural heritage conservation is a related, mature field of research which is also treated."

Book Description
'Laser Cleaning in Conservation' is the first book to be written on this subject. Development of the laser as a practical tool has been a significant advance in the refinement of conservation techniques. It is only over the past five years that conservators have begun to realise the full potential of laser technology. The extremely selective cleaning offered by lasers results in very high quality work while minimising any damage caused. Martin Cooper's pioneering book will give anyone with an interest in the conservation of artworks a basic understanding of the laser cleaning technique so that they are aware of its advantages and limitations. Improved knowledge of the technique will lead to more widespread and responsible use and, therefore, improved conservation of artworks. Martin Cooper took both his first degree and PhD (laser cleaning of sculpture) at Loughborough University. He has since been working as a scientist in the Laser Technology section of the National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside, Liverpool, England, working closely with conservators to research and develop lasers for use in conservation. First book to be written on this subject areaDescribes pioneering work of John Larson and colleagues Includes chapter on laser cleaning of paintings Indepth and wide-ranging case studies show methods and results of use of lasers in conservation

Book Description
Laser cleaning is very important for modern high technology. It is used, or considered for use in the fabrication of printed circuit boards, in the production of dynamic random access memory (DRAM), in lithography and epitaxial growth, for the removal of contaminations during via-hole production, and for the cleaning of micro-optical and micro-mechanical components. This invaluable book presents the mechanics of the cleaning processes, experimental results, and different applications, including laser cleaning of art. It contains review articles by leading specialists in laser cleaning who participated in the 1st International Workshop on Laser Cleaning, held in Singapore in 2001. Contents: History:The Road to “Steam Laser Cleaning” (W Zapka)Dry Laser Cleaning:Dry Laser Cleaning of Particles by Nanosecond Pulses: Theory (N Arnold)Optical Resonance and Near-Field Effects in Dry Laser Cleaning (B S Luk`yanchuk et al.)Steam Laser Cleaning:Pulsed Laser Cleaning of Particles from Surfaces and Optical Materials (D M Kane et al.)Liquid-Assisted Pulsed Laser Cleaning with Near Infrared and Ultraviolet-Pulsed Lasers (C P Grigoropoulos & D Kim)Steam Laser Cleaning of Silicon Wafers: Laser Induced Bubble Nucleation and Efficiency Measurements (P Leiderer et al.)Physical Mechanisms of Laser Cleaning (V P Veiko & E A Shakhno)Laser Cleaning of Artworks:Laser Ablation in Cleaning of Artworks (V Zafiropulos)On the Theory of Discoloration Effect in Pigments at Laser Cleaning (B S Luk`yanchuk & V Zafiropulos)Applications of Laser Cleaning:Cleaning for Field Emitter Arrays (M Takai)Laser Cleaning of Organic Contamination on Microelectronic Devices and Process Real-Time Monitoring (M H Hong et al.) Readership: Specialists in laser-matter interactions and in industrial applications of laser cleaning; undergraduates and graduate students in optical and laser physics. Keywords:Reviews:“The book provides a comprehensive and thorough description of some of the current trends in laser cleaning at a level appropriate for both researchers working in the field and non-experts willing to get in contact with it. It covers relevant issues from fundamentals or modelling to practical technological developments mainly in the fields of micro/opto-electronics and cultural heritage preservation, this wide range of aspects making the book very valuable for a broad audience.”Prof Carmen N Afonso Instituto de Optica CSIC, Madrid, Spain “The fascination of this book lies in the narrative development of profound technical theories through clear mathematics and superb experimental studies … It is a tour de force and includes a valuable table of nearly all the previous studies in laser cleaning up to around 2001. It is well illustrated and clearly laid out.”Optics & Laser Technology

Book Description
Laser processing of solid materials has been commonly performed in gas ambient. Having the workpiece immersed into liquid, having a liquid film on it, or soaking the material with liquid gives several advantages such as removal of the debris, lowering the heat load on the workpiece, and confining the vapour and plasma, resulting in higher shock pressure on the surface. Introduced in the 1980s, neutral liquids assisted laser processing (LALP) has proved to be advantageous in the cutting of heat-sensitive materials, shock peening of machine parts, cleaning of surfaces, fabrication of micro-optical components, and for generation of nanoparticles in liquids. The liquids used range from water through organic solvents to cryoliquids. The primary aim of Handbook of Liquids-Assisted Laser Processing is to present the essentials of previous research (tabulated data of experimental conditions and results), and help researchers develop new processing and diagnostics techniques (presenting data of liquids and a review of physical phenomena associated with LALP). Engineers can use the research results and technological innovation information to plan their materials processing tasks. Laser processing in liquids has been applied to a number of different tasks in various fields such as mechanical engineering, microengineering, chemistry, optics, and bioscience. A comprehensive glossary with definitions of the terms and explanations has been added. The book covers the use of chemically inert liquids under normal conditions. Laser chemical processing examples are presented for comparison only. First book in this rapidly growing field impacting mechanical and micro/nano-engineering Covers different kinds of liquid-assisted laser processing of a large variety of materials Covers lasers emitting from UV to IR with pulse lengths down to femtoseconds Reviews over 500 scientific articles and 300 inventions and tabulates their main features Gives a qualitative and quantitative description of the physical phenomena associated with LALP Tabulates 61 parameters for 100 liquids Glossary of over 200 terms and abbreviations
