Sin definiciones consensuadas, ni precisión respecto a su alcance y significado real en la praxis de las organizaciones, la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa (RSC) sigue ganando espacios y, sobre todo, afianzándose en el discurso de sus protagonistas. Una de las implicaciones de este desconcierto conceptual radica, por ahora, en que la interpretación discrecional de la empresa se impone al acotamiento reflexivo, y también colectivo, de sus obligaciones en el escenario social o lo que debería entenderse como desempeño responsable. El resultado final es notorio: además de una vinculación indudable entre el sector privado y la miríada de escándalos por corrupción que se han suscitado en el último par de décadas, la práctica de la filantropía y el mecenazgo ha desvirtuado por completo el espíritu de cambio que, según algunos, se encierra en este modelo de actuación. Hasta ahora la única constatación es que la RSC es sólo una latencia que guarda diversas posibilidades: La posibilidad de reconstruir viejas y deficientes relaciones empresa-sociedad; la posibilidad de que el empresariado tome conciencia sobre sus impactos económicos, sociales y medioambientales gestionándolos eficientemente; la posibilidad de exigir criterios mínimos e innegociables a respetar, con objeto de sentar las bases en un nuevo pacto entre todos los agentes sociales; la posibilidad de transitar hacia nuevos -y más justos- modelos productivos y la posibilidad, claro, de incidir en la administración de riesgos y consecuencias de inminentes irresponsabilidades, etc., etc. Así, se abre, en efecto, un espacio que ensancha oportunidades y donde convergen nuevas exigencias, nuevos liderazgos, ciudadanos más participativos, una abundante información y un planeta con recursos limitados.
