Book Description
In the distant future of New York City, white collar Stanley Longpants works for Aiom Corp, his worst enemy. They produce the widely successful lineup of Aioms, fully biological companions which fill the role of friends and lovers in a world of meaningless desire. He refuses to give into the sinful way of life, paving way for a self-loathing lifestyle, and instead wishes to free the computer enslaved companions by granting them free will. His dream seems too ambitious to ever achieve in a world against him, until he discovers a lost Aiom, Isabelle, deactivated and thrown out to rot. After saving her from her programming and allowing her to see the world in a new way, he discovers a conspiracy surrounding not only her but the future of New York City and beyond, taking him deep into it as the center of it all—that is, if Stanley can even trust anything he sees anymore. Discover the conspiracy beneath the city in the second installment of the Definition series, Embracing the Definition.

Book Description
For courses in Social Organization, Kinship, and Cultural Ecology.Kinship has made a come-back in Anthropology. Not only is there a line of noted, general, introductory works and readers in the topic, but theoretical discussions have been stimulated both by technological changes in mechanisms of reproduction and by reconsiderations of how to define kinship in the most productive ways for cross-cultural comparisons. In addition, kinship studies have moved away from the minutiae of kin terminological systems and the “kinship algebra” often associated with these, to the broader analysis of processes, historical changes and fundamental cultural meanings in which kin relationships are implicated. In this changed, and changing context both Andrew Strathern and Pamela J. Stewart -- both of the University of Pittsburgh -- bring together a number of interests and concerns, in order to provide pointers for students, as well as scholars, in this field of study. Taking an explicitly processual approach, the authors examine definitions of terms such as kinship itself, approach the topic in a way that is invariably ethnographic, and deploy materials from field areas where they themselves have worked.

Book Description
Sexuality, religion and faith often have complex and conflicting interactions, on both personal and societal levels. Numerous studies have been conducted on queer subjects, but they have predominantly focused on ‘Western’ expressions of faith and queer identities. This book contributes to the wider scholarship on queer subjects by drawing on actual lived experiences of self-identifying gay and bisexual men in Malaysia. It discusses what we can learn from the realities of their lives that intersect with their religious, spiritual, theological or humanistic values in an Asian context. Analysed within the critical frameworks of queer theory and queer sexual theology, this study divulges the meanings ascribed to sexual identities and practices, as well as conceptualisations of masculinity, sexual desire, love and intimate physical connections. It also lays bare the complex negotiations between gender, desire and spirit, and how they can affect one another. Tying fascinating case studies and underexplored Asian theologies with wider conversations around sexuality and faith, this book will be of significant interest to scholars working in religious studies, theology, queer studies, sexuality studies and Asian studies.
