Depuis 2018, le CHU de Montpellier a développé des actions de prévention bucco-dentaire, au sein des écoles des réseaux prioritaires d'éducation dans l'Hérault. Nous avons réalisé une étude comparative, sur la population des élèves en classe de CP scolarisés en établissement classé REP/REP+. Les données récoltées de Septembre à Décembre 2021, ont été traitées avec celles obtenues pour la période de Janvier à Mars 2021. Une tendance à la baisse est observée entre les deux périodes. Et, pour la deuxième période, le CAOD moyen était d'environ de 3.21. Le besoin en soins dentaires concernait 79.58% des enfants ayant une atteinte carieuse. Et 60.14% des enfants avaient une hygiène dentaire insuffisante. Il a été montré une différence significative dans l'indice CAOD selon entre autres la présence ou non de parodontopathie ainsi que selon l'hygiène bucco-dentaire. L'accès aux soins bucco-dentaires dans les réseaux prioritaires d'éducation reste un défi contemporain. Les actions locales de prévention doivent être relayées par les pouvoirs publics au niveau national pour être amplifiées et élargies à toutes les populations en déficit de recours aux soins.

Présents aux côtés des enfants au quotidien, les enseignants peuvent devenir des acteurs clés de la prévention bucco-dentaire de par leurs enseignements et leurs actions à l'école. Nous avons voulu répondre à la question suivante : les professeurs des écoles primaires possèdent-ils les outils nécessaires pour répondre aux questions des élèves concernant la santé bucco-dentaire, voire leur inculquer les bons comportements, et pour réagir en cas d'urgence dentaire en milieu scolaire ? Pour cela, un questionnaire diffusé par internet a été transmis aux professeurs des écoles publiques de la Manche enseignant dans les classes de primaire. L'étude de leurs réponses a permis, d'une part, d'apprécier leur bonne connaissance des règles élémentaires d'hygiène bucco-dentaire chez l'enfant. D'autre part, elle a permis également de constater que leur appréciation du risque carieux de divers aliments pourrait être améliorée, et surtout que ces enseignants présentent un réel besoin d'information concernant la prise en charge en urgence d'un traumatisme dentaire chez l'enfant.
