The Aquitanian Kyrie Repertory of the Tenth and Eleventh Centuries
Author: Richard Crocker
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 135177736X
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 438
Book Description
This book was published in 2003. One of the most important but least studied of medieval chant repertories is that of the Kyrie. With their Latin texts, Kyrie melodies represented musical ambitions manifested alongside of and subsequent to Gregorian chant - ambitions which achieved stylistic and formal distinction. This study illuminates those features of the early Kyrie that give it its distinctive character and set it apart not only from Gregorian chant but also from other types of medieval chant. The repertory focused on in this book is a group of 22 West Frankish sources which are believed to have originated in several Aquitanian locations. The tradition represented by these manuscripts and their repertory of Kyrie melodies can be followed across a century and a half, from 950 to 1100. The Aquitanian manuscript tradition is significant because these sources represent by far the largest group of closely inter-related musical sources from the period, and the musical notation gives reliable indication of pitch up to a century earlier than other manuscripts of the time. By incorporating both a detailed musical study and transcriptions of these sources this book should be of interest to those who are concerned with the construction of these pieces as well as to those who wish to appreciate them, or even perform them.

Youth basketball players from all across the world view Kyrie Irving highlight reels to learn the ins and outs of passing and dribbling the basketball. Having such extraordinary skills, Kyrie is one of the best point guards in the NBA due to his court vision and ability to pass and score incredibly quickly. Read on to learn about Kyrie Irving's journey into the league, to his college years at Duke University before ultimately propelling into the NBA. Here is a preview of what is inside this book: Childhood and High School Years Training with Pyonin College Years at Duke Kyrie Irving's NBA Career Getting Drafted and Rookie Season All-Star Appearances and the Return of Lebron Three Finals Appearances The Trade to Boston Kyrie's Personal Life Irving's Impact on Basketball Kyrie Irving's Legacy & Future An excerpt from the book: In their early twenties, most young adults are just graduating college and are looking for jobs. Kyrie Irving has yet to reach the veteran years of his career and is already an accomplished multiple-time NBA All-Star, the recipient of the 2012 Rookie of the Year Award, the 2014 NBA All-Star MVP, and an NBA champion at that. Not only that, but Kyrie went to the NBA Finals at a very young age while most NBA players retire without ever having a chance at an NBA championship. However, he would tell you these accolades are par for the course. As he was told by his father, "Stay hungry and humble." This proverb is what continues to drive Kyrie's relentless work both on and off the court. In a league dominated by incredibly talented point guards, there is no choice for aspiring athletes but to be great. For Kyrie, his buttery-smooth ball handling along with his knack for acrobatic finishes around the rim make him stand out from his contemporaries. Irving's game is crafty and elegant. He keeps opponents guessing from the top of the key right down to the bucket. His powerful dribbling ability and superb ambidexterity allow him to keep defenses on their heels. While the 24-second shot clock is ticking, Irving's collection of moves seems to be endless. He zigzags like a chess master. He keeps defenders on their heels and in anticipation of the inevitable and unavoidable show that Irving's hands can do. Kyrie Irving
Author: Martin Gitlin
Publisher: U of Nebraska Press
ISBN: 1496218442
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 240
Book Description
Perhaps no NBA player today is as exciting and yet enigmatic as Kyrie Irving. Martin Gitlin's biography chronicles Irving's brilliance on the court as a devastating one?on?one talent, examines the influence of his father, the untimely death of his mother, his growth as a basketball player in high school and college, and his journey in the NBA. Nicknamed the "Isolation Assassin," Irving has earned the distinction as the most incredible isolation player in the league, outperforming rivals such as Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook with his crossover dribble, drives to the basket, stop?and?go moves, and smooth, feathery jumpers, a distinction borne out, moreover, by his championship-clinching shot against Curry's Golden State Warriors in 2016. Yet while he speaks of maximizing his talent, he has shown reluctance to maximize the production of his teammates by passing the ball, as well as his overall defense. Irving expresses his desire to win championships yet demanded a trade away from the franchise best suited to deliver him a second. Off the court there is no one like Irving either. An educated individual who claims that the earth could be flat and that dinosaurs perhaps never existed, Irving is a man of puzzling contradictions who seeks self-actualization and contentment through a variety of pursuits, including reflection, music, and acting. Gitlin, a veteran writer who has followed Irving's career from the beginning, has much to tell about one of the most mysterious and sensational athletes of our time whose appeal transcends his sport.

Keeping Kyrie
Author: Emily Christensen
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 0997758813
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 314
Book Description
How much can a life change in just five years? For Emily Christensen, that span began with her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and ended with the adoption of six children with special needs. In Keeping Kyrie, she shares the equally astonishing events in between: cochlear implant surgeries, marrying the man of her dreams, the loss of both parents, ovarian cancer, and fostering more than seventy children. At the heart of the story is her heroic effort to save the life of her youngest daughter, Kyrie (said Keer-ree-ay), who was born with Pierre Robin Sequence, a disorder where her lower face and airway were not properly formed. As a foster mom and then adoptive mother, Christensen has fought red tape and made tremendous sacrifices just to help her daughter breathe.
