Book Description
From his pen, the Reverend Dr. A. W. Dock has provided us with a comprehensive study of attrition, assimilation and the retention of new members within the church community. While this study was primarily confined to his own congregation, he has gathered data from pastors of other denominations and traditions in order to give creditability and expose the limits of his findings. This book will be helpful to both pastors and lay persons alike who are faced with the never-ending reality of attrition, assimilation and retention of new members. Reverend Dr. Clayton D. Furlow, Author A Theology of Preaching In the African America Context Philadelphia, PA Reverend Dr. Albert W. Wendell Mapson, Pastor Monumental Baptist Church Philadelphia, PA Pastor Dock gives the reader strategies which were arrived at through careful gathering of data, and through meticulous evaluation and analysis of that data - so that the results presented to us are practical, believable, and doable. Book Description
In this study of church growth and membership retention, Smith argues that if a church is to survive, it must concentrate on keeping its present members as well as attracting new ones. Interviewing people from 600 churches of various sizes and reviewing the causes of membership decline and retention in those churches, Smith asserts that churches must meet members' needs in order to attract and keep them.

Book Description
"The Sin That Will Keep Many Church Members Out of Heaven" gives some often overlooked insights into the sin Jesus said in Matthew at the end of the Sermon on the Mount will keep many praying church members and great church workers out of heaven. This sin is the core sin for which Jesus died and is very often overlooked or lightly regarded as just another sin or seen simply as gross sin. This sin drives every other sin that can be found in man. It is the mother and father of all sins and often, according to Jesus, remains in the lives of many who have united with the church and are very active in the works and ministries of the church. This sin is very subtle and is the most devastating sin of all because it can be very easily overlooked. William A. Shackleford, Sr. has served 23 years as the pastor of the St. Paul High Street Baptist Church in Martinsville, Virginia. He served 4 years at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Charles City County, Virginia. The author has served for over forty years in The Baptist Sunday School and BTU Congress of Virginia, the Christian Education Auxiliary of the Virginia Baptist State Convention. He is a member of the Executive Board of the congress and has served as the chairman of the executive board and president of the Congress. He has served over 25 years as a regular staff instructor for the Christian Educational Institute of the congress and has taught in many seminars and workshops in Virginia and around the United States. William Shackleford has served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the VA Seminary and College, Lynchburg, VA and served nine years on the Martinsville City School Board, Martinsville, VA.

Book Description
Virginia was a battleground state in the struggle to implement Brown v. Board of Education, with one of the South’s largest and strongest NAACP units fighting against a program of noncompliance crafted by the state’s political leaders. Keep On Keeping On offers a detailed examination of how African Americans and the NAACP in Virginia successfully pursued a legal agenda that provided new educational opportunities for the state’s black population in the face of fierce opposition from segregationists and the Democratic Party of Harry F. Byrd Sr. Keep On Keeping On is the first book to offer a comprehensive view of African Americans’ efforts to obtain racial equality in Virginia in the later twentieth century. Brian J. Daugherity considers the relationship between the various levels of the NAACP, the ideas and actions of other African American organizations, and the stances of Virginia’s political leaders, white liberals and moderates, and segregationists. In doing so, the author provides a better understanding of the connections between the actions of white political leaders and those of black civil rights activists working to bring about school desegregation. Blending social, legal, southern, and African American history, this book sheds new light on the civil rights movement and white resistance to civil rights in Virginia and the South.
