Book Description
India was an economic power to reckon with until its economic decline in the 18th century. What explains this long period of prosperity? The answer might lie in a framework of social and economic thought that lies buried in our ancient heritage, says Sriram Balasubramanian, of which Kautilya's Arthashastra is a major example. Kautilyanomics for Modern Times seeks to do three things-first, to provide a structure and a context for Kautilya's economic thoughts; second, to examine his work's relevance today; and third, to do it in a way that a lay reader can follow and grasp easily. Kautilya's thought is mainly articulated through the prism of dharmic capitalism and its components-some examples include his views on global economic outlook, state-market dynamics, and sustainable growth through observance of environmental, societal and familial responsibilities. Fathoming India's rich economic and philosophical heritage and making use of it, Balasubramanian argues, would prove to be a great asset in India's/the country's/the nation's ascent again.

Book Description
Dharmanomics seeks to present a coherent and structured economic framework based on the idea of Dharma for at least 1500 years. Ever wondered what is the socio-economic commonality between the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia, Brihadeeswar temple in Tanjavur and the M? Son Shiva temple in Vietnam? Dharmanomics, which serves as sequel to Kautiyanomics for modern times, discusses economic models across Saraswati-Sindhu civilization and CE kingdoms including the Cholas, Pallavas, Pandyas, Vijaynagar, Kambuja Desa, Champa, Siam among others. The argument put forth in the book seeks to position Dharma as the central interface for economic policy along with the presence of Kautilyan Dharmic capitalism, Dharmic ecosystem and the role of Srenis in economic policies. This would also entail understanding state-market dynamics, rule of law, sustainable growth, trade and commerce through the prism of ethics, responsibilities and harmony. Furthermore, the book tries to provide a socio-economic historical perspective of some of these kingdoms with inscriptive and anectodal evidence to bolster the presented argument and also emphasize that Bharatiya rulers had a time series continuity of economic policy prescriptions far ahead of the Adam Smith's of the modern world.

Book Description
India, That Is Bharat, the first book of a comprehensive trilogy, explores the influence of European 'colonial consciousness' (or 'coloniality'), in particular its religious and racial roots, on Bharat as the successor state to the Indic civilisation and the origins of the Indian Constitution. It lays the foundation for its sequels by covering the period between the Age of Discovery, marked by Christopher Columbus' expedition in 1492, and the reshaping of Bharat through a British-made constitution-the Government of India Act of 1919. This includes international developments leading to the founding of the League of Nations by Western powers that tangibly impacted this journey. Further, this work also traces the origins of seemingly universal constructs such as 'toleration', 'secularism' and 'humanism' to Christian political theology. Their subsequent role in subverting the indigenous Indic consciousness through a secularised and universalised Reformation, that is, constitutionalism, is examined. It also puts forth the concept of Middle Eastern coloniality, which preceded its European variant and allies with it in the context of Bharat to advance their shared antipathy towards the Indic worldview. In order to liberate Bharat's distinctive indigeneity, 'decoloniality' is presented as a civilisational imperative in the spheres of nature, religion, culture, history, education, language and, crucially, in the realm of constitutionalism.

Book Description
Women of Influence a compilation of the work of a few women who have walked that extra mile and made a difference despite major pressures in governance. Most of the books in the public space are autobiographies of men narrating how important they were and the important people they interacted with daily while in service. Rajni Sekhri Sibal narrates stories that have been untold - about the work of ten strong and effective women who left an impact. Having worked in the civil services for thirty-seven years, Rajni has seen things at close quarters. This book is a collection of narratives that provide an insight into some episodes where the protagonist displayed immense courage and commitment. These stories span different generations-the oldest is set at the Bikaner border during the Indo-Pak war and the latest about the UP sand mafia in 2015. The subjects and geographies are different, ranging from a panchayat election in Punjab during the height of militancy in the 80s to Naxal prone Chanderpur in Maharashtra to the Perumon tragedy in Kerala and right across to the orchid plantations in Arunachal.

Book Description
This book is a definitive introduction to the classic text, the Arthashastra, the world’s first manual on political economy. The 2000-year-old treatise is ascribed to Kautilya, the prime minister of King Chandragupta Maurya, and is as important to Indian thought as Machiavelli’s The Prince is to Europe. Arthashastra, or ‘the science of wealth’, is a study of economic enterprise, and advises the king-entrepreneur on how to create prosperity. Thomas Trautmann’s exploration of this seminal work illuminates its underlying economic philosophy and provides invaluable lessons for the modern age.
