Book Description
Just like down home is a phrase my Grandpa said a lot. It’s a fancy way of saying everything went just fine. My Grandpa had a lot of phrases which he said repeated quite often. Some people call them Hillbilly phrases. But as my Grandpa said, he was a Mountain William, not a Hill Billy. My favorite phrase of his was his response when asked how he was. Why I’m fine as a frog’s hair and twice as curly. In this story, Joel September’s life is not going that great. He’s stuck in a job he really hates, but it pays the bills. But then a crisis happens, one which starts his life flowing in a much better direction. And Joel starts to be aware that very soon his life is going to be just like down home! Tonight Joel had no worries. Things were about to change for the better, he could feel it in his bones. “The toe bone’s connected to the … foot bone”, Joel began to sing to himself. Well his singing wasn’t perfect. It was off-key as usual. It was nice to know he was still human. Joel left the sidewalk and continued on across a field of grass. He kept one eye to the ground, on the lookout for presents left by stray dogs. But somehow, he couldn’t focus on the ground tonight. His spirits were just too high. Pretty soon, Joel felt like he was walking on air. It was a wonderful feeling, to feel like you were floating. Joel walked past the Pearly Gates, where St Peter had just posted a “No Trespassing” sign. Joel laughed at the sign and called out, “Very funny Pete”, as he walked by. “I thought you’d enjoy it”, St Peter called back, and then hurried to take the sign back down. Heaven wouldn’t be Joel’s destination tonight, nor for a long time to come. He had too much going right for him on earth. And soon, very soon, things would be going so much more rightly. Publisher: Dale Stubbart
ISBN:
Category : Computers

Pages : 32
Book Description
Every computer has to have a Language in which to write the applications and operating system. [Most computers use several Languages.] It would be nice if that Language were simple enough to use that if you needed to do something simple that wasn’t provided for by the computer, you could whip up a little application to do that for you in a matter of minutes. And, even if you needed to do something complex, you could still use this same simple-to-use Language. A computer Programming Language is a group of Commands which tell the computer what to do. If you could devise the simplest computer Language possible, how would you go about it? Perhaps you’d say, “Who needs a computer Language?” Well computer Languages are used to write all those apps you use. Computer Languages are used to write websites. And having a computer Language available to do simple tasks that aren’t available by clicking somewhere in an app, would come in handy.

Living In, Living Out
Author: Elizabeth Clark-Lewis
Publisher: Smithsonian Institution
ISBN: 1588344428
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 257
Book Description
This oral history portrays the lives of African American women who migrated from the rural South to work as domestic servants in Washington, DC in the early decades of the twentieth century. In Living In, Living Out Elizabeth Clark-Lewis narrates the personal experiences of eighty-one women who worked for wealthy white families. These women describe how they encountered—but never accepted—the master-servant relationship, and recount their struggles to change their status from “live in” servants to daily paid workers who “lived out.” With candor and passion, the women interviewed tell of leaving their families and adjusting to city life “up North,” of being placed as live-in servants, and of the frustrations and indignities they endured as domestics. By networking on the job, at churches, and at penny savers clubs, they found ways to transform their unending servitude into an employer-employee relationship—gaining a new independence that could only be experienced by living outside of their employers' homes. Clark-Lewis points out that their perseverance and courage not only improved their own lot but also transformed work life for succeeding generations of African American women. A series of in-depth vignettes about the later years of these women bears poignant witness to their efforts to carve out lives of fulfillment and dignity.

Take Control of Your Internet Posts: Blog Your Own Way
Author: Dale Stubbart
Publisher: Dale Stubbart
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 119
Book Description
I create my own Websites using HTML and CSS. I've blogged with WordPress for many years. However, I'm always fighting with it to get things formatted my way. I figured if I created my own blogging system, I wouldn't have to do that. So, I created my Radical Blogging Method. You can use it too. I used HTML for the webpage and CSS for the styling. I also used my very easy-to-use Javascript Library to make my webpage more expressive, and to save me a few steps. This can all be done without any Javascript, if you wish. First, I had to figure out what a blogging system does. Then I had to replicate it, well, at least the important steps. My blogging method uses HTML and CSS, just like my webpages do. So, I just write my posts, like I write my webpages. The theme is the same as the other pages of my website, with a few extra features for the Posts. In addition to the posts, there's a list of all the posts. I made that very simple to maintain. And, there's a Feed. This Feed File tells others sites about your posts and it let's readers subscribe to your post. I've set things up, so that it's easy to maintain this feed file. In this book I explain why I did this, how I did it, and how you can use it too. Then I let you draw your own conclusion. Using my Radical Blogging Method saves me time and makes blogging a joy again.

Designing Your Website to Use Less Energy: Green Energy Websites
Author: Dale Stubbart
Publisher: Dale Stubbart
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 142
Book Description
Designing Your Website to Use Less Energy explores simple changes you can make to your website that will cause it to use less energy. We don't often think about the amount of power being used to surf the Internet, but it's quite a lot. If all websites were designed to use less energy, we could save a lot of energy. One of the most important considerations when designing a website to use less energy is to make it load quickly. Part of that depends on where your website sits - your web host. Part of that depends on your images. Part depends on ads. Part depends on how simply your website is coded. In fact, Google will downgrade your web page in its search algorithm if your web page doesn't load quickly. Designing Your Website to Use Less Energy covers choosing a web host, performance, plug-ins and services, making your own plug-in, energy-saving colors, and printing. Performance covers lessening the impact of images, Javascript, CSS, photo frameworks, and database queries, plus other tricks you can use to make your page load faster. If you're a big corporation, there are tools from Google, Facebook, and Twitter you can use. If you're not a large corporation and don't have a lot of time, this audiobook will help you get your website loading faster and will help you save energy. The more users you have who browse your website, the more energy you'll save. Listening ease: medium. Listening level: eighth grade. Maturity: general audience.
