He married five wives: (1) Charity Purdy, (2) Esther Angevine, (3) Elizabeth Richardson, (4) Esther Knight and (5) Ann Aitkins. He was the father of between fourteen and seventeen children. He joined the British at the time of the Battle of White Plains. He left for Nova Scotia, Canada in 1783. Several generations of ancestors and descendants are given.

He was Captain of a Loyalist Company. He married Bethia Miller (1728-1809), daughter of Anthony Miller and Hannah Ganung. He moved his family to Annapolis, MD in 1784. They were the parents of eleven children. He died at Digby, Nova Scotia and was buried in the Parish of Clements Cemetery at Clementsport. Several generations of ancestors and descendants are given.
