Book Description
Julianna Foudree figured out at an early age that love was a pipe dream, and that romance existed only in the movies. Becoming a widow had brought her to the end of a miserable, abusive marriage, and her precious son and daughter were grown. She was looking forward to a new life on her own—a new job, new home, new freedom. Peter Bellamy made his living mastering the mechanics of love and romance, and anyone who bought a ticket could watch him fill a big screen with it. This Montana rancher’s son deserved everything a popular Hollywood leading man could hope for. He had paid his dues! So why couldn’t he relax and enjoy it? Through a series of unlikely encounters, these two became skilled at rubbing each other the wrong way. How could this most irritating, egotistical man force Juli’s darkest fear to the surface? Certainly not the fear of being abused or mistreated. She knew how to handle that. But coming to the realization that she deserved to be truly loved was more frightening than anything. Juliana Foudree needed to embrace her own significance—and Peter Bellamy was determined to see that she did.

Ferran
Author: Colman Andrews
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 1101545941
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
The first-ever biography of Ferran Adrià, the chef behind Spain's renowned El Bulli restaurant, by one of the world's foremost food authorities. More than just the most influential chef of the late-twentieth and early-twenty- first century, Ferran Adrià is arguably the greatest culinary revolutionary of our time. Hailed as a genius and a prophet by fellow chefs, worshipped (if often misunderstood) by critics and lay diners alike, Adrià is imitated and paid homage to in professional kitchens, and more than a few private ones, all over the world. A reservation at his one and only restaurant, El Bulli, is so coveted that scoring a table is harder than nabbing fifty-yardline tickets to the Super Bowl. In his lively close-up portrait of Adrià, award-winning food writer Colman Andrews traces this groundbreaking chef's rise from resort-hotel dishwasher to culinary deity, and the evolution of El Bulli from a German-owned beach bar into the establishment voted annually by an international jury to be "the world's best restaurant." Taking the reader from Adrià's Franco-era childhood near Barcelona through El Bulli's wildly creative "disco-beach" days and into the modern-day creative wonderland of Adrià's restaurant kitchen and the workshop- laboratory where his innovations are born and refined, Andrews blends sweeping storytelling with culinary history to explore Adrià's extraordinary contributions to the way we eat. Through original techniques like deconstruction, spherification, and the creation of culinary foams and airs, Adrià has profoundly reimagined the basic characteristics of food's forms, while celebrating and intensifying the natural flavors of his raw materials. Yet, argues Andrews, these innovations may not be his most impressive achievements. Instead, Adrià's sheer creativity and courageous imagination are his true genius-a genius that transcends the chef's métier and can inspire and enlighten all of us. Entertaining and intimate, Ferran brings to life the most exciting food movement of our time and illuminates the ways in which Adrià has changed our world- forever altering our understanding and appreciation of food and cooking. Guided error correction. Exercises for advanced Spanish-speaking learners of English. Book 2.
Author: Kennedy-Scanlon, Michael
Publisher: Servei de Publicacions de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
ISBN: 8419333050
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 194
Book Description
This book is the result of years of experience teaching English to Spanish undergraduates studying for a degree in English Language and Literature. The focus of the book reflects the assumption that a large majority of the mistakes made by advanced-level learners are the result of interference from their native language. The approach adopted in this book is based on the idea that correcting one's own mistakes involves two separate operations, namely, first recognising the error as such and then providing the correction for it. In the first two thirds of the book, errors are explicitly identified for the learner, whose task is simply to correct the errors. In the final third, however, learners must carry out both operations. lt is this two-step approach that the term «guided error correction» tries to reflect. In order to provide sufficient practice, each of the errors -ali characteristic of Spanish-speakers learning English- occurs on six separate occasions in the book. In addition, the book includes a section of brief explanatory notes at the back of the book where each of the errors is explained, with Spanish translations provided to enhance comprehension of nuances in meaning. These notes are cross-referenced with each error in the exercises for handy referral, but at the same time represent in themselves a compact reference source for common errors. This book will be useful for advanced-level Spanish-speaking learners of English in any context, though it has been designed primarily not for systematic consecutive classroom use but rather as a series of self-correcting one-page exercises that can be pursued sporadically at the learner's convenience. This book is part of a series of three books
