Book Description
Years ago, the author had a startling realization. Theologians and pastors have long taught on the glory of God and its central importance in the Bible. However, because he was living in East Asia, it also dawned on the author that this sort of talk about God's glory, praising Him, and magnifying His name was simply another way of talking about honor and shame. When the author looked at most theology and ministry-related books, he found that honor and shame seemed to be treated differently. Anthropologists talked about honor-shame, but theologians largely focused more on legal metaphors. The author could see both themes in Scripture but couldn't find help as to how to bring them together. This study was developed in order to address this gap and bring those themes together. Book Description
Excerpt from The Elders' Journal of the Southern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1905, Vol. 2 In order that all weekly reports reach the office about the same time, it will be necessary for them to be mailed Saturday night, after mailing the summary of the work of the week, may be added to the report of the following day and thereby a complete account of the work accomplished by each Elder will be kept without mistake. It should also be remembered that these reports must be complete and therefore it is essential that particular attention be given to them. The work will be preserved, bound into volumes and thus become a history of the work done in the mission field. An oversight in the printed matter on the reports occurred and on this account it will be neces sary to write upon it the name of the conference. The proper place would be just over the name of the mission. In signing the summary it is well to write the name in full. Book Description
Excerpt from The Elder's Journal, Vol. 3: Of the Southern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints In sending this volume forth upon its silent mission of usefulness to which it is set apart, we wish only to say in conclusion always remember the words of the Lord given to the Saints through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom: seek learning even by study and also by faith, for, as the Prophet further says, Knowledge saves a man, and in the world of spirits no man can be exalted but by knowledge. So long as a man will not give heed to the mmmandments, he must abide without salvation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Commissioned by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry for use in United Methodist doctrine/polity/history courses. From a Sunday school teacher's account of a typical Sunday morning to letters from presidents, from architects' opinions for and against the Akron Plan to impassioned speeches demanding full rights for African Americans, women, homosexuals, and laity in the Church, this riveting collection of documents will interest scholars, clergy, and laity alike. This Sourcebook, part of the two-volume set The Methodist Experience in America, contains documents from between 1760 and 1998 pertaining to the movements constitutive of American United Methodism. The editors identify over two hundred documents by date, primary agent, and central theme or important action. The documents are organized on a strictly chronological basis, by the date of the significant action in the excerpt. Charts, graphs, timelines, and graphics are also included. The Sourcebook has been constructed to be used with the Narrative volume in which the interpretation of individual documents, discussions of context, details about events and individuals, and treatment of the larger developments can be found.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Relief Society Magazine, Vol. 2: Organ of the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; January, 1915 God bless the Relief Society. The Lord bless the General Board, and help them to see eye to eye, to be united and to put away all jealousy, and every spirit of strife, to be united to help one another, to be forgiving, as we hope to be forgiven, one to wards another; that union, love, and concord may prevail at the head, and may from the head permeate throughout all the stakes and wards Of Zion, which may God grant, I humbly pray, in the name of Jesus. Amen. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work.
