Book Description
This is a story of a large family, ten. I dedicate it to all the families in the world-to all the mothers and fathers that have had incidents happen to them like the ones that happened to us and haven't had the courage or the opportunity, whichever it takes, to confess to them in writing. Many of you will recognize yourselves in some of the situations I describe, and that is how it should be, for we all have stories to tell. We're just humans, therefore all alike. So sit yourself down in a cozy chair and relax because we're going to be together for a while. If you happen to laugh occasionally and some member of your family stares at you strangely, tell them you're reading about something they have done and it got funnier in the retelling. Remember old times, and laugh with me, my friends.

Rhythm and Hues – Twenty-Three Stories of Hardship and Hope By: Corey B. Collins Rhythm and Hues – Twenty-Three Stories of Hardship and Hope is a collection of stories that explore the challenges and triumphs experienced by marginalized communities. In America, hardship and hope are strange bedfellows that often travel in tandem through many communities of color. From families and friends mourning the loss of loved ones taken too soon to youngsters striving to achieve through difficulties not of their own making, these pages lift the veil and offer the hued reader a look at the sometimes familiar. They also offer the non-hued reader some understanding of how communities often burdened by crosses so heavy manage time and again to summon the strength to continue looking upward.

Book Description
Following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, numerous "atomic narratives"--books, newspapers, magazines, textbooks, movies, and television programs--addressed the implications of the bomb. Post-World War II youth encountered atomic narratives in their daily lives at school, at home and in their communities, and were profoundly affected by what they read and saw. This multidisciplinary study examines the exposure of American youth to atomic narratives during the ten years following World War II. In addition, it examines the broader "social narrative of the atom," which included educational, social, cultural, and political activities that surrounded and involved American youth. The activities ranged from school and community programs to movies and television shows to government-sponsored traveling exhibits on atomic energy. The book also presents numerous examples of writings by postwar adolescents, who clearly expressed their conflicted feelings about growing up in such a tumultuous time, and shows how many of the issues commonly associated with the sixties generation, such as peace, fellowship, free expression, and environmental concern, can be traced to this earlier generation.

Book Description
Lieutenant Kate De Marco, an army nurse, and Captain Robert Coleman, an infantry officer, met in the Philippines in 1940. Finding themselves in one of the most romantic locations in the world, their love grew even as the winds of war threatened to drive them apart. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, their lives changed completely, as American and Filipino soldiers surrendered to the Japanese in Bataan. Kate and Robert were separated in the melee. Evacuated to the relative safety of nearby Corregidor Island, Kate kept a diary, where she recorded her longing for Roberts safe return. Meanwhile, Robert opted not to surrender and instead swam the precarious two miles from Bataan to Corregidor in search of his love. As the Japanese threatened to take Corregidor, Kate hid her diary in the walls of an underground tunnel, where it stayed for seventy years. In 2012, Lisa Newhouse and Brandon Wales, two graduate students from the University of Tennessee, travel to Corregidor with a study group and discover Kates lost diary. Inspired by her words and her love for Robert, they too admit their shared feelings. Although the intersection of their lives with that of Kate and Robert is coincidence, the diary leads them on a journey, which will change their lives forever.

Sean McQueen is a staid, middle-aged NYU literature professor leading an uneventful life, until he receives a cryptic letter from his intellectually and poetically gifted best friend, Dylan Byrne. Following years of extensive research, Dylan claims that he has discovered "the theory of everything": a revelation that promises to alter man’s view of existence by reconciling science with spirituality. The two men arrange a meeting to discuss the paradigm-shifting theory, but after Dylan never shows, Sean discovers his friend has died under mysterious circumstances and the theory has gone missing. Sean teams up with Dylan’s scientific collaborator, quantum cosmologist Emily Edens, to find the lost theory. Together they embark on the adventure of a lifetime—traveling from the busy streets of New York City to the mystical corners of Kathmandu where Dylan realized his groundbreaking theory. On their quest, they encounter extraordinary allies and fearsome adversaries, including a covert government operative code-named "Guru," who is hell-bent on finding the theory first and preventing Sean and Emily from sharing it with the world. The Lost Theory is an exhilarating adventure of self-discovery, full of magical realism, mystery, and romance, all wrapped up in a story overflowing with wit, intrigue, and a sense of ultimate redemption.

Book Description
Lyrical, riveting, and haunting from its opening lines, None But the Righteous is an extraordinary debut that signals the arrival of an unforgettable new voice in contemporary fiction "[A] profound debut novel . . . James captures the simple kindnesses of a cup of coffee or a shared cellphone as though they were religious acts. Where a more ponderous writer might lapse into a lengthy stream of consciousness, James uses short chapters to weave a story of fractured time and uncharted space into the fabric of life after Katrina . . . This is a book of faith aching to be claimed, of a land that dares to be redeemed, of souls searching to be free, of all spirits looking for a home. It’s a metaphysical book deeply rooted in ancient legacies of subjugation . . . This is a deeply haunted novel that moves with calm and ruthless determination, like the eye of a hurricane." —The Los Angeles Times In seventeenth-century Peru, St. Martin de Porres was torn from his body after death. His bones were pillaged as relics, and his spirit was said to inhabit those bones. Four centuries later, amid the havoc of Hurricane Katrina, nineteen-year-old Ham escapes New Orleans with his only valued possession: a pendant handed down from his foster mother, Miss Pearl. There’s something about the pendant that has always gripped him, and the curiosity of it has grown into a kind of comfort. When Ham finally embarks on a fraught journey back home, he seeks the answer to a question he cannot face: Is Miss Pearl still alive? Ham travels from Atlanta to rural Alabama, and from one young woman to another, as he evades the devastation that awaits him in New Orleans. Catching sight of a freedom he’s never known, he must reclaim his body and mind from the spirit who watches over him, guides him, and seizes possession of him.

Book Description
Villa Hecate Synopsis It’s the eve of 1984 and the much anticipated dystopian society predicted by Orwell has not yet materialised. Laurie McGrath is a much sought after session guitarist from Glasgow. He is married to Cate (short for the Greek goddess Hecate). Cate is a well known watercolour artist who has exhibited in the Royal Academy summer shows as well as in her native Scotland. Laurie can’t believe his luck when one of the top boy bands breaks up and its charismatic singer Brent McDonald asks him to be in his new band as they tour in Spain. A series of unexpected events quickly catapult Laurie and his artist wife Cate from the trendiness of Glasgow’s West End into a young, vibrant and newly democratic Spain. Deciding to spend a year in the Marbella area of southern Spain, the couple fortuitously find a dream home by the beach. Cate renames the house, Villa Hecate. Following the austerity of General Franco’s dictatorship, the Transition years, were a period of relative freedom and adventure both for Spain and Laurie and Cate. Laurie McGrath was born and raised in the Maryhill district of Glasgow. After studying at Glasgow University, he worked as a session guitarist through the Punk and New Wave years of the late 70s and early 80s. He recorded and toured as a session musician with many well-known groups including The Stranglers, The Damned, Elvis Costello, Ian Drury and Dr. Feelgood. The author describes himself as a poet, musician and Buddhist (though not necessarily in that order). Laurie now lives in Hastings in East Sussex with his wife Cate and their cocker spaniel.
