Moore offers a reading of the Gospels of Mark and Luke, applying the poststructuralist techniques of Derrida, Lacan and Foucault. Book Description
Jenny Read-Heimerdinger explores the characters of Luke-Acts in order to situate them in the Jewish world to which they belong. Through a close reading of the Greek text, she argues that Luke emerges as a person thoroughly steeped in a Jewish view of Scripture, familiar with a range of associated oral traditions; and that taking account of the Jewish features allows new insights into the way that the author situates events and characters firmly within the history of Israel, before the Church was a separate institution or religion. Read-Heimerdinger proposes that such a view of his work implies an addressee capable of understanding what he received and that one eminently qualified candidate is Theophilus, the high priest in Jerusalem 37-41 and brother-in-law of Caiaphas. The Jewish perspective of Luke's two volumes is more visible in forms of the text not used for modern translations, notably that of Codex Bezae and the early versions, which are rejected by the editors of the Greek New Testament on which translations are based. Read-Heimerdinger draws on the analysis of the variants of the Greek text analysed in her previous Luke in his Own Words (2022), in a manner more accessible to readers unfamiliar with Greek. The variant readings make use of a sophisticated knowledge of Jewish exegetical techniques that would generally be discarded by later generations of Christians but which are increasingly being recognized by NT scholars, in line with Jewish historical studies of Second Temple and Rabbinic Judaism. Seeing the characters of Luke-Acts through Theophilus' eyes brings exciting insights and a fresh understanding of the author's message.

Book Description
A rich and comprehensive volume—essential reading for all those interested in how to read Luke as relevant for today In this sixth volume, the Scripture and Hermeneutics Seminar brings its past six years of work on biblical hermeneutics to bear on the gospel according to Luke. In his introduction, Anthony Thiselton, world authority on biblical hermeneutics, sets the context for a wideranging exploration of how to read Luke for God’s address today. Traditional and more contemporary approaches are brought into dialogue with each other as several top Lukan scholars reflect on how best to read Luke as Scripture. Topics covered include the purpose of Luke- Acts, biblical theology and Luke, narrative and Luke, reception history and Luke, the parables in Luke, a missional reading of Luke, and theological interpretation of Luke. Since prayer is a major theme in Luke, this volume explores not only the role of prayer in Luke, but also the relationship between prayer and exegesis.

Book Description
This new Pillar commentary devotes attention throughout to the vocabulary, historical background, special themes, and narrative purpose that make the book of Luke unique among the four Gospels. Though the Gentile focus of Luke is often held to be primary, James Edwards counterbalances that by citing numerous evidences of Luke's overarching interest in depicting Jesus as the fulfillment of the providential work of God in the history of Israel, and he considers the possibility that Luke himself was a Jew. Edwards also draws out other important thematic issues in excursuses scattered throughout the commentary, including discussion of Luke's infancy narrative, the mission of Jesus as the way of salvation, and Luke's depiction of the universal scope of the gospel. This readable, relevant commentary attends to the linguistic, historical, literary, and theological elements of Luke that are essential to its meaning and considers Luke's significance for the church and the life of faith today.

Book Description
Words like "fate" and "destiny" sound hokey or cheap in every day conversation, but what if you were forced into a world where the rest of your life was controlled by them? What if you suddenly found out that you had been selected from before your birth to save the world? What if you the world you'd spent your life in really wasn't your world at all? This is what young Kayelae must deal with when she leaves the world she called home for the final time to save the world she left behind in infancy. It is in this world, Charis, that she meets the man chosen to be her partner long before his birth, a man who has absolutely no desire to help her. in fact, what he wants is the very opposite: to destroy the Prophesy that seeks to govern him. And when he has a sudden change of heart, can she trust him? Can she really trust anyone, especially the handsome assassin claiming to be her brother? And when even fate is destroyed, will any of them survive?

Book Description
This study of the Third Gospel is based on two main ideas: first, that it is 'Pauline' and bears the imprint of the association between Paul and its writer, assumed to be Luke, and secondly, that it is a narrative, a written account that takes the form of a story. As a narrative, it is quite different from the argumentative, conceptual style of Paul's letters. This study illustrates how Pauline themes are 'translated' into the deceptive simplicity of narrative, giving particular attention to the parables.
