Book Description
Writing at the high school level requires higher cognitive and literacy skills. Educators must decide the strategies best suited for the varying skills of each process. Compounding this issue is the need to instruct students with learning disabilities. Writing for students with learning disabilities is a struggle at minimum; teachers have to find a way to instruct students on how to write so they can meet the necessary demands of post-secondary education and the workforce. Working and learning in the 21st century also brings in the aspect of using technology to instruct students. The focus of this research will be to determine the effectiveness of using technology and graphic organizers to teach the pre-writing process. The pre-writing process is the most important stage of writing; a stage students with learning disabilities struggle with the most, and routinely spend the least amount of time on. The following are appended: (1) Kansas Department of Education 6 TRAITS of Writing; (2) Student Self-Assessment and Attitude toward Writing Survey; (3) Graphic Organizer; and (4) Persuasive Analysis Organizer. (Contains 2 tables and 4 graphs.).

Book Description
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of graphic organizers on the academic achievement of high school students receiving instruction in United States History via an online blended learning environment. With 60 participants in the study, the students were equally divided into two groups of 30 participants each. Group I was designated as the treatment group, while Group II formed the control group. A two-tailed t-test was used to determine that the means of the two posttests were not significantly different at a probability level of .05. Therefore, the results of this research study indicated that high school students who received instruction in United States History in an online blended learning environment using graphic organizers did not perform significantly higher on the End-of-Course Test than high school students who did not receive instruction using graphic organizers.

Book Description
Authors abstract: "The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of incorporating graphic organizers as an experimental follow up activity in a traditional lecture and discussion means of teaching social studies in the first grade. This five week study was notable in that it involved children in the early primary grades and teaching materials other than traditional textbooks. The control and experimental groups were given a multiple choice post-test, developed by the local school system, which measured achievement of social studies learning objectives mandated by the state of Virginia. Data analysis indicated no significant differences between students exposed to the graphic organizer activities and those exposed to other follow up activities."
