Book Description
The Lepidoptera are without doubt the best known insect order in today’s Europe. Nevertheless there is still a great lack of knowledge in some groups, such as the Geometridae. The northern and central European fauna is relatively well known, but the distribution and bionomics of a number of species are poorly known. This problem is much more marked in southern Europe where no books on Geometridae have been published for nearly a century. Data on the bionomics are frequently unavailable which makes it difficult to assess environmental threats to the geometrid species. Information on distribution is still grossly incomplete and many records have been based on misidentifications. These problems are mainly caused by the lack of comprehensive identification literature. The geographical area covered in this series ranges from North Cape to Gibraltar and Malta, and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Ural Mountains. Each volume will illustrate the adults of all species, and if possible also subspecies, in photographic colour plates of the highest quality. Sexual dimorphism as well as polymorphism will be illustrated. Most species will be shown at natural size, but some larger groups of small species such as the genera Idaea and Eupithecia will be shown enlarged.

Book Description
This is a comprehensive photo-illustrated guide to the caterpillars of butterflies and macro-moths of the British Isles. Having been out of print for a number of years and much sought after, Apollo Books is pleased to announce this reprint, which has received unreserved support from the best entomologists. The book examines over 850 different species - about 95% of resident, extinct, regular, or irregular immigrant species to the British Isles. Though the book illustrates British species, it is valuable for all lepidopterists. Many of the species have never been illustrated as caterpillars before, either by artwork or by photography. All specimens are photographed in natural situations and include many varieties indigenous to continental Europe. The text includes a look at larva, foodplants, habits, and information on how to breed the species. It will appeal to anyone with an interest in European Macrolepidoptera.

Book Description
This checklist does not supercede any other because it is the first of its kind for the Neotropical region. It represents the cUlmination of several years preparation by the con tributing authors and editor, following the initiation of the "Atlas" project in the autumn of 1978. The collaborators to the project continue their work, either for "Atlas" fascicles or for the more immediate completion of the remaining five parts of the checklist. The goal of the project is to provide a foundation work on the Neotropical Lepidoptera, illustrated to the extent possible and encompassing a detailed text covering the basic data known for each described species (original citation, synonymy, diagnosis, range, flight per iod and hosts). New species will be described as each author finds useful, but the primary purpose is initially to document all the species already known. Efforts to document the Lepidoptera faunas of individual countries in Latin America are relatively illogical, since in most cases upwards of 80% of the entire Neotropical fauna is represented in each coun try having tropical forest and, thus, such works would have to deal with most of the conti nental fauna. The "Atlas" project covers the entire region to begin with but as a coopera tive project among all New World nations.
