Book Description
This book is an unconventional reappraisal of Soviet law: a field that is ripe for re-evaluation, now that it is clear of Cold War cobwebs; and, as this book shows, one that is surprisingly topical and newly compelling. Scott Newton argues here that the Soviet order was a work of law. Drawing on a wide range of sources – including Russian-language Soviet statues and regulations, jurisprudence, legal theory, and English-language ‘legal Kremlinology’ – this book analyses the central significance of law in the design and operation of Soviet economic, political, and social institutions. In arguing that it was an exemplary, rather than aberrant, case of the uses to which law was put in twentieth-century industrialised societies, Law and the Making of the Soviet World: The Red Demiurge provides an insightful account of both the significance of modern law in the Soviet case and the significance of the Soviet case for modern law.

Book Description
We hope that this book will prove useful for readers who wish to become familiar with the Russian copyright law. It should be especially helpful for businessmen, lawyers, publishers, scholars and general users, whose activity involves dealing with Russian copyright and other legal issues. Russian copyright law has changed dramatically over its 200-year history. In 1993 it was entirely rewritten, to bring it closer to its counterparts in most European states. Nevertheless, it retains a number of peculiarities. Now, being a part of the Russia’s Civil Code, Part 4, with several amendments made to it, the Copyright legislation has been kept basically intact as it is described in this book. Although the legislative acts are relatively brief, and appear straightforward, Russian copyright law has a number of unpleasant traps for those not completely familiar with its provisions and how they are applied in practice. We believe that this book will help readers to avoid these traps. Also, this book explains how to take legal action against copyright violators, to defend unjustified claims of copyright infringement, to register copyright, to formalize transfer or acquisition agreements, and to resolve other problems that arise in routine practice.

Book Description
Almost twenty years after the Soviet Union's end, what are we to make of its existence? Was it a heroic experiment, an unmitigated disaster, or a viable if flawed response to the modern world? What was the Soviet Union like? How did it evolve over seven decades? What was the relationship between the regime and the general population? This introduction blends political history with an investigation into the society and culture at the time. The author examines aspects of patriotism, mass culture, political violence, poverty, and ideology; and provides answers to some of the big questions about the Soviet experience.
