Adventist Interchurch Relations
Author: Stefan Höschele
Publisher: V&R Unipress
ISBN: 3847014633
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 513
Book Description
This study presents the first comprehensive analysis of Seventhday Adventist interchurch relations – a 20-million member body whose ecumenical stance has so far been underresearched. For the sake of interpreting denominational involvement and reservations in Adventism as well as beyond, the study develops a new academic approach to ecumenism based on Relational Models Theory, a comprehensive social science paradigm of interpreting human relationships. The resulting typology of ecumenical interactions and the historical case study of Adventism suggest that such a relational interpretation of ecumenical interaction sheds light on many of the unresolved issues in ecumenics – such as divergent concepts of unity, difficulties in recognition processes, and the permanence of denominationalism.

Being Both
Author: Susan Katz Miller
Publisher: Beacon Press
ISBN: 080701320X
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 265
Book Description
A book on the growing number of interfaith families raising children in two religions Susan Katz Miller grew up with a Jewish father and Christian mother, and was raised Jewish. Now in an interfaith marriage herself, she is a leader in the growing movement of families electing to raise children in both religions, rather than in one religion or the other (or without religion). Miller draws on original surveys and interviews with parents, students, teachers, and clergy, as well as on her own journey, in chronicling this grassroots movement. Being Both is a book for couples and families considering this pathway, and for the clergy and extended family who want to support them. Miller offers inspiration and reassurance for parents exploring the unique benefits and challenges of dual-faith education, and she rebuts many of the common myths about raising children with two faiths. Being Both heralds a new America of inevitable racial, ethnic, and religious intermarriage, and asks couples who choose both religions to celebrate this decision.

Interfaith Relations After One Hundred Years
Author: Marina Ngursangzeli Behera
Publisher: Regnum Edinburgh 2010
ISBN: 9781610979108
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Description: Edinburgh 2010 has a special relevance for Christians in India particularly when we consider the contributions Indian Christians continue to make both academically as well as in their day-to-day lives to living out and promoting interfaith relations and interfaith dialogue. For the typical Indian Christian, living with a neighbor of another faith is a daily reality and this pluralism has also influenced Christians in India to view ecumenism in a realistic and appreciative manner. The essays in this book reflect not only this acceptance and celebration of pluralism within India but also by extension an acceptance as well as a need for unity among Indian Christians of different denominations. The essays were presented and studied at a preparatory consultation on Study Theme II: Christian Mission Among Other Faiths under the theme ""Interfaith Relations Among Other Faiths "" at the United Theological College, Bangalore, India from 17th - 19th July 2009. Interfaith Relations After One Hundred Years: Christian Mission Among Other Faiths contains material, which it is hoped will contribute to the aims of the overall Edinburgh 2010 publications, to be studied and reflected on both in the Church and for academic purposes. About the Contributor(s): Dr. Marina Ngursangzeli Behera, from the Presbyterian Church of India, Mizoram Synod, is an Associate Professor and currently teaches in the Department of History of Christianity at the United Theological College, Bangalore. She is also the Chairperson of the department.

Building the Interfaith Youth Movement
Author: Eboo Patel
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 9780742550674
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 300
Book Description
Violence committed by religious young people has become a regular feature of our daily news reports. What we hear less about are the growing numbers of religious young people from all faith backgrounds who are committed to interfaith understanding and cooperation. Building the Interfaith Youth Movement is the first book to describe this important phenomenon. Contributions include concrete descriptions of various interfaith youth projects across the country--from an arts-program in the South Bronx to a research program at Harvard University to a national organization called the Interfaith Youth Core based in Chicago--written by the founders and leaders of those initiatives. Additional chapters articulate the theory and methodology of this important new movement. This book is a must-read for college chaplains, religious leaders who work with youth, and students and scholars of contemporary religion.

Not Without My Neighbour
Author: S. Wesley Ariarajah
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
Meeting people of other faiths is an everyday experience not only for minority Christian communities in Asia and the Middle East but increasingly for Christians elsewhere. Yet although interfaith dialogue has established itself as a key concern for the churches and the ecumenical movement, it continues to raise spiritual, social, political, practical and theological concerns in many quarters. The insights in this book draw on the author's wide range of personal experiences -- as a child, student and Methodist pastor in Sri Lanka; as a participant in the controversial discussion of interfaith dialogue at the World Council of Churches' fifth assembly (Nairobi 1975); as a student of Hinduism; and especially as a longtime staff member and director of the WCC's dialogue programme. Weaving together accounts from daily life, ecumenical texts and discussions, and theological reflection, this book offers a clear and challenging introduction to key issues that arise again and again when Christians and churches enter into conversation with their neighbours of other faiths -- among them interfaith prayer, interfaith marriage, religion and conflict, and dialogue and mission.
