This report is the final product of a multi-stakeholder consultation process undertaken by a Manitoba task force whose objective was to develop a regional solid waste management action plan. The task force focused its efforts on understanding the province's current solid waste management system and regional waste activities in comparison to how other jurisdictions address solid waste management. After an introduction on the mandate of the task force and the consultation process, the report reviews solid waste management trends in other jurisdictions and the state of solid waste generation & management in Manitoba. Task force consultation findings are then presented with regard to such matters as local regional waste management system formation, integrated system components, waste reduction, disposal sites, northern & remote community issues, environmental impacts, and funding. The report concludes with the task force's overall observations, its vision for an integrated waste management system, and recommendations to support that vision.
