Shane O’Connell was born on 22 February 1959 in Melbourne, Australia, and was educated at St Patricks College in Sale, Eastern Victoria, 200 km east of Melbourne and later at Monash University in Melbourne. After a stint in the Australian Public Service for five uneventful years,he was able to pursue his passion of working full-time for the Australian workers’ movement, which he did for twenty years. He is the proud father of Kristen, Jarrod, Lauren, and Lachlan, who all have a twin sibling. His novel tells us of his personal journey, contemporary issues, and of many of the thirty-five countries he was lucky enough to visit and a brief interlinked history of these places.
