Book Description
The recent disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have shaken the fundamental foundations of global business to their core, creating unprecedented challenges for management scholars and practitioners. In addition, over the past few decades, the general adoption of communication technologies and the evolving trends towards digitalization and Industry 4.0 have revolutionized the way organizations are managed and led. Business model innovation and the developing importance of sustainability have also emerged as strategic platforms for all types of organizations. Technology-led managerial transformation has now become critical for 21st century business. This book investigates four approaches in understanding the perspectives for integrating technology with holistic development: a Civilizational Approach, which integrates cultural, historical as well as geographical nuances in a way totally different from the Western positivistic models; a Stakeholder Approach, which involves moving away from a mere participant or observer role and embracing the 'Stakeholder' role; a Knowledge Partnership Approach, which lays the foundations of India's technology-led development through education, training, research and talent management; and a Strategic Development Approach, which unlocks the economic growth and wealth creation potential by keying marketing and branding at the ecosystem level.

Author: Shawki M. Barghouti
Publisher: World Bank Publications
ISBN: 9780821324622
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 174
Book Description
Argentina has reformed its public finance system and reversed years of economic decline and deficit spending. This study recommends policy options to speed the already impressive progress. These options would expand the ambitious reform program already under way. This study shows how to sustain balanced public finances over the medium term. It describes ways to sustain price stability and economic growth while providing a cushion against unexpected downturns. Also examined are ways to improve social services while reducing the size of government. Researchers discuss key reforms that could boost the fiscal surplus by as much as 1.4 percent of gross domestic product. They look at ways to build tax revenues, reduce provincial finances, and make social security more equitable. They review methods to cut defense spending and revive a moribund education system. Additional policy options offered are reforms for housing and welfare programs and pension fund investments. The study suggests ways to improve the legal framework for a stronger central bank. Also reviewed are ways to eliminate unnecessary administrative agencies and to privatize public enterprises. The government's new health insurance program is examined. This program offers universal coverage. It lets contributors choose providers and includes subsidies for those who can't pay. It also requires a minimum package of health care at a set price.

Territorial Patterns of Innovation
Author: Roberta Capello
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136199608
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 373
Book Description
This edited volume describes the spatial diffusion of knowledge and innovation using a large dataset at the regional level, and presents scientific evidence on the role of knowledge and innovation on regional development. The empirical results support a new design for innovation policies at the regional level, which could help the European Union to achieve the targets set up in its 2020 Agenda. Today, financial capital, general information, consolidated technologies and codified knowledge are readily available virtually everywhere. However, the ability to organize these ‘pervasive’ factors into continuously innovative production processes and products is by no means pervasive and generalized; rather, it exists selectively only in some places where tacit knowledge is continuously created, exchanged and utilized and business ideas find their way to real markets. Territorial Patterns of Innovation provides evidence that, contrary to popular belief, local knowledge intensity does not necessarily guarantee higher innovation performance. Moreover, the book shows that the growth benefits deriving from innovation do not necessarily match the strength of the formal local knowledge base, and that regions innovating in the absence of a strong local knowledge base can be as successful as more knowledge-intensive regions in turning innovation into a higher growth rate. Together, the contributions in this book offer a new understanding of the relationship between knowledge, innovation and regional performance by delving beyond generally held beliefs. It will be of value to regional scientists, industrial economists and policymakers.

Dead Ringers
Author: Shehzad Nadeem
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 1400836697
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 290
Book Description
A vivid portrait of India’s outsourcing industry In the Indian outsourcing industry, employees are expected to be "dead ringers" for the more expensive American workers they have replaced—complete with Westernized names, accents, habits, and lifestyles that are organized around a foreign culture in a distant time zone. Dead Ringers chronicles the rise of a workforce for whom mimicry is a job requirement and a passion. In the process, the book deftly explores the complications of hybrid lives and presents a vivid portrait of a workplace where globalization carries as many downsides as advantages. Shehzad Nadeem writes that the relatively high wages in the outsourcing sector have empowered a class of cultural emulators. These young Indians indulge in American-style shopping binges at glittering malls, party at upscale nightclubs, and arrange romantic trysts at exurban cafés. But while the high-tech outsourcing industry is a matter of considerable pride for India, global corporations view the industry as a low-cost, often low-skill sector. Workers use the digital tools of the information economy not to complete technologically innovative tasks but to perform grunt work and rote customer service. Long hours and the graveyard shift lead to health problems and social estrangement. Surveillance is tight, management is overweening, and workers are caught in a cycle of hope and disappointment. Through lively ethnographic detail and subtle analysis of interviews with workers, managers, and employers, Nadeem demonstrates the culturally transformative power of globalization and its effects on the lives of the individuals at its edges.

Fortifying India's Transformation
Author: Divya Singh Rathore, Suryapratap Babar
Publisher: Notion Press
ISBN:
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
The decisions of the Indian State in the last decade have put India into a high growth trajectory - not just in terms of economic growth but also in the geopolitical, social and developmental domains. India’s growth story and development policies have become a beacon for other developing countries. The position that India is in today is a result of all the aforementioned policy decisions. However, through our interactions with youth in the age group of 18 to 35 years, we realised that they lack this background understanding of how their lives are impacted and improved by the decisions of the Indian State. To address this gap, we decided to write this book. Our book will help you understand what the challenges were faced by India in the geopolitical, governance, cultural, women & youth and climate fronts and how the policies of the Indian State have attempted to solve these challenges. Consequently, the book is divided into five sections: Geopolitics, Digitalisation & Governance, Decolonisation of Indian Ethos, Women & Youth and Climate & Sustainability. We have also attempted to suggest how the policy framework in these domains can be improved and we would very much like the readers to engage with us over them. India is roaring today! And this book is an attempt to explain to the readers, what is making India roar towards glory.

Book Description

The existing insurance industry is increasing at a rate of 10% per year, but Indian players have only tapped into a small portion of it. With a population of over 1 billion people, India's insurance sector offers huge prospects and can easily support more than 100 insurers. The Indian insurance sector appears to have a lot of potential. In terms of diffusion and penetration, India is one of the least insured countries. The changing demographic profiles of the economy, as well as the changing nature of risk as a result of the adoption of new technology and talents, are some of the elements that make the Indian insurance market so appealing.
