Book Description
Being paradoxist in nature, Florentin's Laws are especially deviations, modifications, generalizations, contra-sayings, parodies, or mixtures of the previous Murphy's Laws and Peter's Laws. And also of aphorisms, proverbs, known citations, cliches, scientific results (from physics, mathematics, philosophy, ...), etc.Alternatively, collations of opposite ideas - gathered from folklore, from ads, from literature, from familiar speech. For example, Murphy's law ?Anything that can go wrong will go wrong'which in Peter's law is stated as:?If anything can go wrong, Fix It!?becomes in Florentin's law, through deviation:?If anything can go wrong, pass it on to someone else!?in a Machiavelli way, as a mixture of pessimism / optimism and laugh! In the above example, while Murphy's law output is negative and Peter's law output is positive, Florentin's law output is indeterminate [perversity] as in neutrosophic logic (i. e. the problem has not be solved, but passed to another person!... it's a trickery (deception, cunning, dodge, swindle, caper, subterfuge). Each Florentin's Law should include: negative (pessimism) and positive (optimism) attributes, while its conclusion should be moderate ? often trickery bended with humor.

Book Description
In the fifteenth-century republic of Florence, political power resided in the hands of middle-class merchants, a few wealthy families, and powerful craftsmen's guilds. The intensity of Florentine factionalism and the frequent alterations in its political institutions gave Renaissance thinkers ample opportunities to inquire into the nature of political legitimacy and the relationship between authority and its social context. This volume provides a selection of texts that describes the language, conceptual vocabulary, and issues at stake in Florentine political culture at key moments in its development during the Renaissance. Rather than presenting Renaissance political thought as a static set of arguments, Florentine Political Writings from Petrarch to Machiavelli instead illustrates the degree to which political thought in the Italian City revolved around a common cluster of topics that were continually modified and revised—and the way those common topics could be made to serve radically divergent political purposes. Editors Mark Jurdjevic, Natasha Piano, and John P. McCormick offer readers the opportunity to appreciate how Renaissance political thought, often expressed in the language of classical idealism, could be productively applied to pressing civic questions. The editors expand the scope of Florentine humanist political writing by explicitly connecting it with the sixteenth-century realist turn most influentially exemplified by Niccolò Machiavelli and Francesco Guicciardini. Presenting nineteen primary source documents, including lesser known texts by Machiavelli and Guicciardini, several of which are here translated into English for the first time, this useful compendium shows how the Renaissance political imagination could be deployed to think through methods of electoral technology, the balance of power between different social groups, and other practical matters of political stability.

Book Description
In a life full of permutation of endless possibilities, sometimes we need clues on how the best way to get our dice pop up with the expected result. In this way, perhaps this small book, which comprises of collection of ideas, hints and methods in various aspects of personal life, workplace, mathematics, science, and medicine etc. can serve to the reader just like proverbs help us to keep a perspective in life, i.e. to become 'life strategies¿. Or, if for nothing else, the (random) sentences listed here at least can stimulate further thoughts. This collection was written more than three decades ago (and I still collect them today), but has never been published in printed form. I started to write down such ideas since I was a high school student and continue even today - I always bear with me a small pen and small notebook where I write in the plane, or when driving my car, or even in class room. Despite three decades of postponement, I hope this small booklet, which is rather a draft, will keep on inspiring the reader, as good ideas will always be worth to ponder. Some of these enumerated ideas might become aphorisms in the future.

Book Description
Monetary law is essential to the functioning of private transactions and international dealings by the state: nearly every legal transaction has a monetary aspect. Money in the Western Legal Tradition presents the first comprehensive analysis of Western monetary law, covering the civil law and Anglo-American common law legal systems from the High Middle Ages up to the middle of the 20th century. Weaving a detailed tapestry of the changing concepts of money and private transactions throughout the ages, the contributors investigate the special contribution made by legal scholars and practitioners to our understanding of money and the laws that govern it. Divided in five parts, the book begins with the coin currency of the Middle Ages, moving through the invention of nominalism in the early modern period to cashless payment and the rise of the banking system and paper money, then charting the progression to fiat money in the modern era. Each part commences with an overview of the monetary environment for the historical period written by an economic historian or numismatist. These are followed by chapters describing the legal doctrines of each period in civil and common law. Each section contains examples of contemporary litigation or statute law which engages with the distinctive issues affecting the monetary law of the period. This interdisciplinary approach reveals the distinctive conception of money prevalent in each period, which either facilitated or hampered the implementation of economic policy and the operation of private transactions.
