Book Description
Fly is fed up with everyone studying butterflies. Flies are so much cooler! They flap their wings 200 times a second, compared to a butterfly's measly five to twelve times. Their babies-maggots-are much cuter than caterpillars (obviously). And when they eat solid food, they even throw up on it to turn it into a liquid. Who wouldn't want to study an insect like that? In an unforgettably fun, fact-filled presentation, this lovable (and highly partisan) narrator promotes his species to a sometimes engrossed, sometimes grossed-out, class of kids.

Book Description
*"A gentle, effective presentation of grieving and moving on." --Kirkus Reviews (starred review) A beautiful father-daughter story celebrating love, loss, and healing, and one bird's broken wing that may prove impossible to fix. Lucy has always been good at fixing things--the wonky mailbox, broken watches, even Dad's old binoculars. And Lucy is happy to help her dad; they share a special bond. It's just the two of them, after all. So when Lucy finds a tiny bird with a broken wing, she's sure she can fix him too--but not everything that's broken can be fixed. A tender and loving story about loss, healing, and the special connection between fathers and daughters. Praise for When We Fly: "The core of author-illustrator McGeachin’s poignant, fantastical tale is grounded in sobering reality, as Lucy’s father helps her come to terms with the knowledge that not everything is fixable, but he also teaches her that moving forward is possible with the support of loved ones."--Publishers Weekly

Book Description
*"Truly enchanting."--Kirkus Reviews (starred review) A loose retelling of Cinderella, about a high-school graduate who--after getting grounded for the whole summer--joins a local Quidditch league and finds her footing, perfect for fans of Dumplin', Fangirl, and everyone who's read and adored Harry Potter. 17-year-old vegan feminist Ellen Lopez-Rourke has one muggy Houston summer left before college. She plans to spend every last moment with her two best friends before they go off to the opposite ends of Texas for school. But when Ellen is grounded for the entire summer by her (sometimes) evil stepmother, all her plans are thrown out the window. Determined to do something with her time, Ellen (with the help of BFF Melissa) convinces her parents to let her join the local muggle Quidditch team. An all-gender, full-contact game, Quidditch isn't quite what Ellen expects. There's no flying, no magic, just a bunch of scrappy players holding PVC pipe between their legs and throwing dodgeballs. Suddenly Ellen is thrown into the very different world of sports: her life is all practices, training, and running with a group of Harry Potter fans. Even as Melissa pulls away to pursue new relationships and their other BFF Xiumiao seems more interested in moving on from high school (and from Ellen), Ellen is steadily finding a place among her teammates. Maybe Quidditch is where she belongs. But with her home life and friend troubles quickly spinning out of control--Ellen must fight for the future that she wants, now she's playing for keeps. Filled with heart and humor, Anna Meriano's YA debut is perfect for fans of Dumplin' and Hot Dog Girl. Book Description
This short story is semi-autobiographical and adventure general fiction. The autobiographical part of this story is not completely accurate according to how these unusual incidents happened. Although they are real, some were the results of dreams, visions, and thought processes. I experienced the majority of these stories, no matter how unreal, over the life course. The adventure general fiction is my way of making sense of the bazaar dreams and happenings. Rather than stop the story where it ended in a dream, I added a fiction component to support the action of the general theme. I titled this story "I Fly" because in my dreams when I was faced with danger: cut, stabbed, shot, drowned, murdered, I always develop the ability to fly and I simply flew away. Although it is not mentioned here, I have landed on board of jet airplanes, ships, and have been suspended in mid air for hours. When I flew in these instances, I felt catheterized. A peaceful tranquility came over me in my sleep and rather than wake up, I sank into a deep sleep. The initial fear I experienced during a fight, disappeared each time I took flight. I have always said that I would have loved to spend my life in the deep jungles of Africa or Brazil on one adventure after another. After reading this book, I hope you will learn that you are a total person: mind, body, and spirit, and all these forces come together to produce a whole you. Don't be afraid to use your dreams, premonitions, and hunches to help you solve problems, arrive at conclusions, and become a changed individual.

Book Description
The riveting firsthand account of an RAF pilot’s adventures in World War II—from life-and-death situations to unusual posts that test his usual good humor. After several years at sea, Sgt Bill Bailey arrived in Cairo in 1942 as a new recruit to the RAF, hoping to fulfill his ambition to fly bombers. Within hours of his arrival he is sent on his first bombing mission as second pilot in a 104 Squadron Wellington. Hit by enemy gunfire, his aircraft suffered continual loss of altitude until hitting a rock outcrop and disintegrating. Bailey came to lying alone on a precipitous ledge and soon realized that he was the sole survivor. To stay alive in temperatures of over 100 degrees, he trudged over seemingly endless dunes at dusk and dawn, his energy gradually fading. Though he ultimately found shelter in an abandoned German reconnaissance truck, he gradually resigned himself to death. But with a last desperate inspiration Bailey realized that it might be possible to attract attention by heliograph. He found enough equipment in the truck and rigged a mast with the mirror at the top and commenced signaling, eventually being rescued by a Long Range Desert Patrol. After recuperation, Bailey rejoined his squadron and was given a new crew with whom he completed his tour. He was then sent to Malta where much to his amazement he was made ground controller of a satellite fighter airfield. This is Bailey’s uniquely harrowing and humorous account of situations beyond his control—both in and out of the cockpit—during the Second World War.
