Excerpt from Hymns of Praise, Prayer, and Devout Meditation It may be interesting to add, that the Hymn at page 169, (published in the first editions of the Congregational Hymn Book, but afterwards omitted, ) was written with a view of furnishing words expressive of Christian faith and feeling to the music adapted to Pope's popular ode, Vital spark, which has nothing distinctively Christian about it but the title. Also, that the Hymn at page 121 Day ever blessed) was written to a very sweet air in the Chants set to the words J our du Seigneur, &c.
