Using autoethnography, she goes beyond the personal experience and examines various issues surrounding mental health. Hospitable Witnessing candidly takes readers into the everyday life of being with a mentally ill person. There are emotional challenges and contingencies in sustaining friendship and caring for a person with a long-term mental health problem. Oh points out that those who care for a loved one during a long-term illness inevitably experience “burnout” resulting from the constant care requirements. Under such an enormous disruption, we need to be compassionate toward another’s suffering and be willing to be present and available for them. This book suggests our need of one another and identifies three important Christian practices: caring as we are being made in the image of God, compassion as being present with the sufferer, and lament as to revitalize our faith and hope.

Through the study of Indigenous literary and artistic practices from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, Julia V. This study seeks to establish the interreligious engagement of Christians as a community anchoring its identity and mission in the hospitality of God. It attempts to overcome both the isolationism and relativism in interreligious relations by recentering the focus from the usual discussion on the eternal destiny of individuals to the triune hospitality demonstrated in creation, redemption and consummation. Firstly, it argues that the church is to participate in the creation hospitality doxologically, sapentially, and eschatologically. Such participation allows the church to discern the "trinitarian vestiges" in other religions including the songs and sighs of life. It urges the church to share the resources, responsibility and wisdom with their neighbors while focusing on its particular prophetic pilgrimage amidst all the beauty and disruption of nature and life. Secondly, it argues that the church is to participate in redemption hospitality in the history of Jesus Christ and witness to that hospitality in corresponding postures toward its neighbors including identification, receiving, learning, reaching, and embracing. And lastly, the study reaffirms the cosmic scope of the Spirit's activity: to consummate history, to transfigure life and the world, and to effect judgment on everything in order to purify, to transform and to glorify. In such light, the church is to engage fully in the Spirit's mission in the world with constant respect for the eschatological distance, a contextualized effort to discern the spiritualities of the diverse mission fields, and it is to faithfully work to narrow the dissonance gaps. The study moves the discussion beyond interreligious dialogue to guide and to motivate a holistic, multi-faceted relationship with neighbors of other faiths. Instead of bracketing the trinitarian understanding of God, it employs this unique doctrine of Christianity to bear with the challenges of religious pluralism. The study has ecumenical Christianity in perspective, often with special focus on evangelicals, and when appropriate relates to Vietnamese evangelicals.

This book focuses on the traumatic experiences within and through music that individuals and collectives face, while considering ways in which they (re)engage with their traumas in educational settings. The chapters delve into the physical, psychological, philosophical, sociological, and political aspects, as they relate to the reciprocal influences of trauma on musical practices and education. Readers are immersed in topics related to societal violence, physical injuries, grief, separation, loss, death, and ways of working through these in educational and artistic situations. In the introductory chapter, the co-editors draw attention to theoretical matters related to trauma through narrative inquiry in music education. The first section of the book, Separation Revisited, brings together notions of separation, focusing on how loss is emotionally and physically manifested when death, grief, and bodily injury are experienced. In the second section, (Re)Engaging with Lost and Found, readers are encouraged to imagine new possibilities considering trauma and loss in educational and musical spaces. These pieces offer deliberate ruminations moving the discourse toward (re)engagement in and through music education and artistic contexts. The co-editors conclude the book by drawing attention to narrative inquiry’s double-edged nature in stories of trauma and how the retelling of lost and found narratives offers a way to imagine lives otherwise—lives not smothered by grief and horror—through the conceivable reliving of unfathomable stories of experience.
