Book Description
HONTO III: The Pictorial History of the USAF Security Service at Misawa, Japan chronicles the early history of a Signals Intelligence Intercept Site in Northern Japan. History is normally presented in the written or spoken word, and is boring in the extreme. This history is different. It is told with photographs taken by the men and women who blazed a trail for the fighting of the Cold War. This book is anything but boring. See Also Honto! I and Honto! II by T. Wayne Babb.

Book Description

As Kelly investigates, he eventually uncovers evidence that indicates that the exotic dancer and the wife of a prominent professor both had a personal item stolen the same way. But the question before Kelly isn't necessarily who, or how, but why. Many of the leads Kelly is chasing help him solve parts of the case, but others turn out to be phantoms. How can Kelly find out why someone is robbing these two women. One thing leads to another and Kelly determines what the why is and he doesn’t like it. This second installment of this thrilling Japanese series finds Matt Kelly embroiled in a conflict between an old adversary and a new one. At stake: Japan, Asia, and the world. Are these criminals part of the local yakuza or just lone wolf criminals or SOMETHING ELSE?

The In-Situ Approach to Sluicing
Author: Jun Abe
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing Company
ISBN: 9027268630
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 177
Book Description
It has been standardly claimed since Merchant (2001) that island violations can be repaired by simply deleting the categories that induce such violations, as witnessed by sluicing, an ellipsis construction that deletes TP with a remnant wh-phrase. This book aims to argue that such “repair by ellipsis” is simply a myth. Alternatively, the author argues for what is called the in-situ approach to sluicing, originally proposed by Kimura (2007, 2010), according to which the remnant wh-phrase in sluicing stays in situ. This approach immediately explains the island-insensitivity of sluicing, since no overt wh-movement is involved in the derivation of this construction. Hence, it challenges the approach in terms of island repair by ellipsis in that it nullifies the necessity of a repair mechanism. This book makes an important contribution to the field in providing an alternative way of approaching ellipsis phenomena that are claimed to induce “island repair.”

Spectral Theory and Quantum Mechanics
Author: Valter Moretti
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 8847028353
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 742
Book Description
This book pursues the accurate study of the mathematical foundations of Quantum Theories. It may be considered an introductory text on linear functional analysis with a focus on Hilbert spaces. Specific attention is given to spectral theory features that are relevant in physics. Having left the physical phenomenology in the background, it is the formal and logical aspects of the theory that are privileged. Another not lesser purpose is to collect in one place a number of useful rigorous statements on the mathematical structure of Quantum Mechanics, including some elementary, yet fundamental, results on the Algebraic Formulation of Quantum Theories. In the attempt to reach out to Master's or PhD students, both in physics and mathematics, the material is designed to be self-contained: it includes a summary of point-set topology and abstract measure theory, together with an appendix on differential geometry. The book should benefit established researchers to organise and present the profusion of advanced material disseminated in the literature. Most chapters are accompanied by exercises, many of which are solved explicitly.

Triangular and Jordan Representations of Linear Operators
Author: M. S. Brodskii
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 9780821886595
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 258
Book Description
Determining the invariant subspaces of any given transformation and writing the transformation as an integral in terms of invariant subspaces is a fundamental problem. This book presents the foundations of the theory of triangular and Jordan representations of bounded linear operators in Hilbert space and solves the problem in the case of completely continuous transformations. The reader is assumed to know the basics of linear operator theory.
