Book Description
"Pursuing and expanding the concept of the "novelized essay" that had served him so well in Navigator of the Flood, his first venture into writing, Brelich here takes up the biblical story of Abraham and Sarah. After the long quiescent interval succeeding the Flood, Abraham, repudiating the idols worshipped by his forebears, "discovers" God - which is to say that the Lord once again takes an interest in human affairs, settling upon another willing but divided patriarch as the instrument for procreating His chosen people. It is Abraham's servile infatuation with his frigid and narcissistic wife Sarah - "the most beautiful woman in the world" - that poses the greatest stumbling block to the Lord's designs. But this is also the story of a long and painful marriage between two mutually exasperating people. How the miracle of the "holy embrace" is finally accomplished - that is, how their son Isaac (whose name means "Laughter") is conceived in accordance with God's command - forms the substance of this profound and witty book." --Book Jacket.

Book Description
In Fatal Embrace, Braverman provocatively argues that Jewish exclusivism is being enacted in the colonial, expansionist nature of the State of Israel. He also contends that the attempts by Christians to atone for anti-Semitism have resulted in the suppression of honest interfaith dialogue on the issue, blocking progress toward a just peace. This book is a call to action directed at Christians and other Americans.

Book Description
What does it really mean to "be holy"? These two little words seem to echo throughout scripture. 1st Peter quotes Leviticus when we read God's command: "You shall be holy, for I am holy." Again in Ephesians when we read that God "chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy". And in the last chapter of the last book of the Bible we read that we are to "still be holy". Our calling to be holy is a challenging one, but living the "normal" alternative often leads to frustration, disappointment, and empty overindulgence. This invitation to be holy challenges us to live our lives set apart; not because God needs us to, but because it is a better way for us to experience and live life. Brian Christopher Coulter shows us what it means to be holy in today's world and how living into this calling helps us discover and develop our sense of identity, belonging, and purpose. Prepare to be changed and begin living the life God meant for you.

Book Description
During the American Civil War, songs united and inspired people on both sides. The North had a well-established music publishing industry when the war broke out, but the South had no such industry. The importance of music as an expression of the South's beliefs was obvious; as one music publisher said, "The South must not only fight her own battles but sing her own songs and dance to music composed by her own children." Southern entrepreneurs quickly rose to the challenge. This reference book is distinguished by three major differences from previously published works. First, it lists sheet music that is no longer extant (and listed nowhere else). Second, it gives complete lyrics for all extant songs, a rich source for researchers. And third, a brief historical background has been provided for many of the songs. Each entry provides as much of the following as possible (staying faithful to the typography of each title page): the title as published, names of all lyricists, composers and publishers; dates of publication; cities of publication; and if applicable, the names of catalogs or magazines in which the song appeared. Music published in Southern cities under Federal occupation is excluded.

Book Description
Guengerich understands the modern American struggle to combine modern world views with outdated religious dogma. He proposes that we are long overdue in evolving our concept of God. Gone are the days of the magical, supernatural deity in the sky who visits wrath upon those who have not followed his word; we need a God that grounds our morality, unites us in community, and engages us with a world that still holds more mystery than answers.
