"The following study was undertaken at the suggestion of Mr. J.B. Doze, state fish and game warden, in charge of the State Fish Hatchery at Pratt, Kan. The State Hatchery at Pratt consists of 112 ponds, varying in size from one-fifth acre to one and one-half acres, and supplied by water from the South Ninnescah river. During the past years it has been noted that some of these ponds have consistently a much higher fish productivity per acre than others. In order to operate the hatchery at its highest efficiency, Mr. Doze desired to ascertain the reason for this high productivity of some ponds and low productivity of others, with a view to changing conditions so as to render all ponds like those now producing the most fish"--Page 5
