Book Description
This book offers a new approach to the history of Greek portraiture by focusing on portraits without names. Comprehensively illustrated, it brings together a wide range of evidence that has never before been studied as a group. Sheila Dillon considers the few original bronze and marble portrait statues preserved from the Classical and Hellenistic periods together with the large number of Greek portraits known only through Roman 'copies'. In focusing on a series of images that have previously been ignored, Dillon investigates the range of strategies and modes utilized in these portraits to construct their subject's identity. Her methods undermine two basic tenets of Greek portraiture: first, that is was only in the late Hellenistic period, under Roman influence, that Greek portraits exhibited a wide range of styles, including descriptive realism; and second, that in most cases, one can easily tell a subject's public role - that is, whether he is a philosopher of an orator - from the visual traits used in this portrait. The sculptures studied here instead show that the proliferation of portrait styles takes place much earlier, in the late Classical period; and that the identity encoded in these portraits is much more complex and layered than has previously been realized. Despite the fact that these portraits lack the one feature most prized by scholars of ancient portraiture - a name - they are evidence of utmost importance for the history of Greek portraiture.

Book Description
In the fall of 2011, The Long Story Shorts One Act Festival was launched, featuring performances of short plays written by undergraduate students in the Writing for the Screen and Stage minor, an interdisciplinary, dramatic writing program housed in the Department of Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Marking the first five years of the festival, this anthology showcases works written to be performed in ten minutes with a small production budget. The festival gives students a unique opportunity to participate in a collaborative, developmental environment led by experienced faculty and professional actors and directors, and the plays included here rise to the occasion. Whether they are humorous, poignant, powerful, or provocative, they demonstrate why the short play form has become so popular; why this event has become one of the highlights of the university's cultural scene; and why the Writing for the Screen and Stage program has thrived.

Book Description
Ranch life saps the good looks from a woman, and eighteen-year-old Summer Gorman has no intention of letting that happen to her. Looking to experience life and make her own way in the world, she leaves her parents, Herm and Sara, and their run-down 1,400-acre ranch. Hitching a ride into Rialto, a small Tex-Mex town thirty miles from the ranch, Summer lands a job as a waitress at Caf Rialto, a diner owned by former boxer Sharkey Gallos. Looking for excitement and perhaps romance, Summer finds plenty of each. As her romance with Sharkey grows, so does her realization that Sharkeys passion for big money and his increasing involvement with the drug traffic are heading for big trouble. Summer finds her ties with the ranch are not completely severed, as her former classmate Clay Burnside rediscovers her in Rialto and awakens old memories she had forgotten. Then, her mother promotes her own ambitions, as well as spiting Summer, by deeding the ranch to her church. Summer begins a season filled with periods of breathtaking beauty and moments of abject terror. She learns who she is and what love is really about while growing from a girl into a woman.
