Book Description
This book describes useful analytical methods by applying them to real-world problems rather than solving the usual over-simplified classroom problems. The book demonstrates the applicability of analytical methods even for complex problems and guides the reader to a more intuitive understanding of approaches and solutions. Although the solution of Partial Differential Equations by numerical methods is the standard practice in industries, analytical methods are still important for the critical assessment of results derived from advanced computer simulations and the improvement of the underlying numerical techniques. Literature devoted to analytical methods, however, often focuses on theoretical and mathematical aspects and is therefore useless to most engineers. Analytical Methods for Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Problems addresses engineers and engineering students. The second edition has been updated, the chapters on non-linear problems and on axial heat conduction problems were extended. And worked out examples were included.

Book Description
Intended for first-year graduate courses in heat transfer, this volume includes topics relevant to chemical and nuclear engineering and aerospace engineering. The systematic and comprehensive treatment employs modern mathematical methods of solving problems in heat conduction and diffusion. Starting with precise coverage of heat flux as a vector, derivation of the conduction equations, integral-transform technique, and coordinate transformations, the text advances to problem characteristics peculiar to Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates; application of Duhamel's method; solution of heat-conduction problems; and the integral method of solution of nonlinear conduction problems. Additional topics include useful transformations in the solution of nonlinear boundary value problems of heat conduction; numerical techniques such as the finite differences and the Monte Carlo method; and anisotropic solids in relation to resistivity and conductivity tensors. Illustrative examples and problems amplify the text, which is supplemented by helpful appendixes.

Book Description
Heat Conduction, Fifth Edition, upholds its reputation as the leading text in the field for graduate students, and as a resource for practicing engineers. The text begins with fundamental concepts, introducing the governing equation of heat conduction, and progresses through solutions for one-dimensional conduction, orthogonal functions, Fourier series and transforms, and multi-dimensional problems. Integral equations, Laplace transforms, finite difference numerical methods, and variational formulations are then covered. A systematic derivation of the analytical solution of heat conduction problems in heterogeneous media, introducing a more general approach based on the integral transform method, has been added in this new edition, along with new and revised problems, and complete problem solutions for instructors.

Book Description
The eigenvalue method is evaluated to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the method as compared to fully explicit, fully implicit, and Crank-Nicolson methods. Time comparisons and accuracy comparisons are made in an effort to rank the eigenvalue method in relation to the comparison schemes. The purpose of this thesis is to verify by duplicating their efforts with the method. The eigenvalue method is used to solve the parabolic heat equation in multidimensions with transient temperatures. Extensions into three dimensions are made to determine the method's feasibility in handling large geometry problems requiring great numbers of internal mesh points. The eigenvalue method proves to be slightly better in accuracy than the comparison routines because of an exact treatment, as opposed to a numerical approximation, of the time derivative in the heat equation. It is an unconditionally stable method. It has the potential of being a very powerful routine in solving long transient type problems. The method is not well suited to finely meshed grid arrays or large regions because of the time and memory requirements necessary for calculating large sets of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Keywords: Numerical Analysis, Numerical Methods, and Heat Transfer.

Book Description
Many phenomena in social, natural and engineering fields are governed by wave, potential, parabolic heat-conduction, hyperbolic heat-conduction and dual-phase-lagging heat-conduction equations. This monograph examines these equations: their solution structures, methods of finding their solutions under various supplementary conditions, as well as the physical implication and applications of their solutions.
