Book Description
Born in 1473, Margaret Pole was the daughter of George, Duke of Clarence, niece of both Edward IV and Richard III, and the only woman, apart from Anne Boleyn, to hold a peerage title in her own right during the sixteenth century. After being restored by Henry VIII to the earldom of Salisbury in 1512, her deep Catholic convictions were increasingly out of favour with Henry and she was executed on a charge of treason in 1541. In 1886, Margaret Pole was among sixty-three martyrs beatified by Pope Leo XIII for not hesitating 'to lay down their lives by the shedding of their blood' for the dignity of the Holy See. In this first biography of a significant female figure in the male-dominated world of Tudor politics, Hazel Pierce presents the life and culture of this propertied titled lady against the social and political background of late Yorkist and early Tudor Britain.

Book Description
Born into a relatively privileged family, Geraldyne Pierce Zimmerman earned a reputation as a maverick in her lifelong home of Orangeburg, South Carolina, a semirural community where race and class were very much governed by the Jim Crow laws. Educated at Nashville’s Fisk University, Zimmerman returned to Orangeburg to teach school, serve her community, and champion equal rights for African Americans and women. Kibibi V. Mack-Shelton offers a vivid portrayal of the kind of black family seldom recognized for its role in the development of the African American community after the Civil War. At a time when “separate but equal” usually meant suffering and injustice for the black community, South Carolina families such as the Tatnalls, Pierces, and Zimmermans achieved a level of financial and social success rivaling that of many white families. Drawing heavily on the oral accounts of Geraldyne Pierce Zimmerman, Mack-Shelton draws the reader into the lives of the African American elite of the early twentieth century. Her captivating narrative style brings to life many complicated topics: how skin color affected interracial interactions and class distinctions within the black community itself, the role of education for women and for African Americans in general, and the ways in which cultural ideas about family and community are simultaneously preserved and transformed over the span of generations. Refreshing and engaging, Ahead of Her Time in Yesteryear is a fascinating biography for any reader interested in a new perspective on small-town black culture in the Jim Crow South.

Book Description
I was always told that we had forefathers that served in the American Revolutionary War. I decided that I wanted to find out for sure and that is when I first became addicted to researching. It's been fun, time consuming but if compiling all this information helps someone find which branch of the family tree they came from then it has been worth it.

Book Description
A young girl at a Connecticut private school falls in love with her English teacher in this turbulent and tender first novel by the winner of the Yale University Willet Prize. Flanders Point is a spit of land on the Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound, the site of a small, financially troubled girls' prep school called Haddam. To this school comes Charlotte Delafield, a gawky teen hoping to surmount the aftermath of her parents' difficult divorce, and Brian Parton, a restless young writer and English teacher. Through the everyday events of Charlotte's senior year--conflicts and misunderstanding in the classroom, as well as flashes of inspiration and learning, an annual outdoor Shakespeare production, and walks in the still, wild marshland of Flanders Point--the two find themselves drawn to each other. Under increasing emotional pressure, the barrier between student and teacher cracks but does not break--until graduation day. In Flanders Point, Jacquie Gordon shows the promise of early Pat Conroy. And the novel conjures up those other coming-of-age classics we all treasure, like A Separate Peace and Catcher in the Rye.

Book Description
The story of the Vyvyans and what they have accomplished and endured is incredible. When my great, great Grandfather left Cornwall at the age of 18, he had nothing. His family was poor and the economy of Cornwall was in decline and yet ten years later he owned over a hundred acres of land. (He eventually owned over 300 acres of land.) This is a story of accomplishment, persistence, resourcefulness, and the people who lived it.
