Foundations of Hadronic Chemistry

Book Description
A Physicist's Perspective on the Insufficiencies and Generalizations of Quantum Chemistry My Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in Italy on the Insufficiencies of Quantum Mechanics and Chem istry I was first exposed to quantum chemistry during my undergraduate courses in physics at the University of Naples, Italy, in the late 1950s. My teacher was Prof. Bakunin, a well known lady chemist in Europe at that time, who escaped from Russia with her family during the ad vent of communism. My three exams with her (inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and laboratory chemistry) were, by far, the most dif ficult exams of my life (although I did please Prof. Bakunin during the examinations) . Besides chemistry, during my undergraduate studies I plunged into the study of physics, with particular reference to quantum mechanics and its mathematical structure. My mathematics teacher was Prof. Cac cioppoli, one of the most famous Italian mathematicians of that time, who taught me the necessity of advanced mathematics for quantitative physical studies. By reading the works of the founders of contemporary physics, it was easy for me to see the lack of final character of quantum mechanics already in these undergraduate studies.

Isodual Theory of Antimatter
Author: Ruggero Maria Santilli
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781402045172
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 364
Book Description
The scope of this monograph is to show that our classical, quantum and cosmological knowledge of antimatter is at its beginning with much yet to be discovered, and that a commitment to antimatter by experimentalists will be invaluable to antimatter science. This is also the first book presenting the isodual theory of antimatter. It is aimed at scientists and researchers in theoretical physics.

Quantum Measurements in Optics
Author: Paolo Tombesi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461533864
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 422
Book Description
The NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Quantum Measurements in Optics was held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, January 21-25, 1991. This workshop was attended by 70 participants from 16 different countries. The subjects discussed at this workshop concentrated on quantum measurements in optics made possible by the recent advances in the generation and detection of light with low quantum noise. These advances have occurred simultaneously with the development of atomic traps capable of trapping a single atom for a considerable period of time. The interaction of a single two level atom with the single mode of the electromagnetic field is now possible in high Q microcavities. A new field of cavity QED has developed studying the properties of Rydberg atoms in microwave cavities. At this meeting we heard the first report of an atomic interferometer where a single atom passing through the two slits exhibits wave like interference phenomena. This new field involving the transfer of momentum from photons to atoms has lead to new possibilities for quantum nondemolition measurements on an optical field. We heard suggestions for such measurements at this meeting. With the new light sources available the possibility of using low quantum noise light in optical communications becomes close to reality. The problem of the propagation of quantum light field in optical fibres was actively discussed at this meeting.

Second International Conference on Algebra
Author: Leonid Arkadʹevich Bokutʹ
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 082180295X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 466
Book Description
This book contains papers presented at the Second International Conference on Algebra, held in Barnaul in August 1991 in honour of the memory of A. I. Shirshov (1921--1981). Many of the results presented here have not been published elsewhere in the literature. The collection provides a panorama of current research in PI-, associative, Lie, and Jordan algebras and discusses the interrelations of these areas with geometry and physics. Other topics in group theory and homological algebra are also covered.

Modern Mathematical Models of Time and their Applications to Physics and Cosmology
Author: W.G. Tifft
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 940115628X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 382
Book Description
The nature of time has long puzzled physicists and philosophers. Time potentially has very fundamental yet unknown properties. In 1993 a new model of multi-dimensional time was found to relate closely to properties of the cosmological redshift. An international conference was subsequently convened in April 1996 to examine past, current and new concepts of time as they relate to physics and cosmology. These proceedings incorporate 34 reviews and contributed papers from the conference. The major reviews include observational properties of the redshift, alternative cosmologies, critical problems in cosmology, alternative viewpoints and problems in gravitation theory and particle physics, and new approaches to mathematical models of time. Professionals and students with an interest in cosmology and the structure of the universe will find that this book raises critical problems and explores challenging alternatives to classical viewpoints.
