Book Description
This book focuses on the ways in which military installations and small cities can implement and integrate triple net planning and energy, water, and waste sustainability strategies into broad installation operational management, arrive at the best decision, create policy and communicate effectively to stakeholders. It explores current and emerging technologies, methods, and frameworks for energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy within the context of triple net zero implementation practice. Recognizing that the challenge extends beyond finding technological solutions to achieve triple net zero outcomes, the contributions also address the need for a systemic view in the planning phase, as well as adequate communication and policy measures and incentives.

Book Description
Eminent defense officials, scholars, and military officers offer a thoughtful, comprehensive, and well balanced evaluation of U.S. defense technology in this highly-informative volume. They carefully analyze such difficult questions as: What technologies should be pursued and for what purposes? How should these technologies be pursued and integrated into U.S. defense posture? What are the implications of America's increasing reliance on advanced technology? Throughout the book, the contributors provide cogent answers to these questions and more as they seek to illuminate understanding, clarify debates, and promote contributions of advanced technology to U.S. defense and security. Defense Technology offers both the interested citizen and the serious student of U.S. national security affairs a broad range of reasonable positions on the problems, prospects, and consequences of America's reliance on advanced technology in its national defense. In its six comprehensive parts, Defense Technology offers vital information on its controversial topic. Part One introduces the role of technology in U.S. national security. Next, the contributors set the context of defense technology: its importance, its context in U.S. approaches to foreign and defense policy, its implications in international affairs, and the dilemmas it poses for U.S. policymakers. Part Three and Four present assessments of opportunities for exploiting advanced technologies in both strategic and conventional military force capabilities. In part five, experts examine various approaches for organizing and managing the development and integration of defense technology into the U.S. defense sector. The final part offers insights into the broad implications that emerge from the conclusions about these important questions.

Book Description
Knowledge is the basic output of the defense technology establishment in the United States; it is what enables the development of weapon systems. From this premise, this volume explores the process of knowledge production in defense technology from the beginnings of the Cold War to the present time. Produced through the process of research and development (R&D), technical knowledge for defense is an economic commodity. It is "fundable" in the sense of having future value. Like other commodities in the futures market, it is purchased before it is produced. But unlike those other commodities, this knowledge is typically produced through the joint efforts of the customer and the vendor. This study highlights two polar aspects of knowledge production: technology development and technology transfer. It centers on the present, shifting concept of defense conversion that is redefining defense technology policy. The book also includes cited documents pertaining to the transactions that engage customers and vendors in the process of knowledge production. The documents constitute a literature of needs and claims, and they reveal two chief properties: problem formulation and tactical positioning. Apart from the substantive yield of these particular documents, the strategy of evidence in this volume has broad implications for further study, suggesting a means of analyzing knowledge production in other large social systems.
