Book Description
Renowned biblical scholar Thomas Schreiner looks at the historical and biblical roots of the doctrine of justification and offers an updated defense of this pillar of Reformed theology. Reinvigorating one of the five great declarations of the Reformation—sola fide—Schreiner: Summarizes the history of the doctrine, looking at the early church and the writings of several of the Reformers. Walks readers through an examination of the key biblical texts in the Old and New Testament that support the Reformed understanding of justification. Discusses whether justification is transformative or forensic and introduces readers to some of the contemporary challenges to the Reformation teaching of sola fide, with particular attention to the new perspective on Paul. Five hundred years after the Reformation, the doctrine of justification by faith alone still needs to be understood and proclaimed. In Faith Alone you will learn how the rallying cry of “sola fide” is rooted in the Scriptures and how to understand this doctrine in a fresh way. —THE FIVE SOLAS— Historians and theologians have long recognized that at the heart of the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation were five declarations, often referred to as the "solas." These five statements summarize much of what the Reformation was about, and they distinguish Protestantism from other expressions of the Christian faith: that they place ultimate and final authority in the Scriptures, acknowledge the work of Christ alone as sufficient for redemption, recognize that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, and seek to do all things for God’s glory. The Five Solas Series is more than a simple rehashing of these statements, but instead expounds upon the biblical reasoning behind them, leading to a more profound theological vision of our lives and callings as Christians and churches.

Book Description
We cannot know God, in depth without recognizing and acknowledging His absolute, glorious sovereignty over all things, in all times, and in every aspect of our lives. He is Lord and His will reigns supreme. When we finally come to this conclusion, when our thoughts, prayers, and daily actions finally align, at last, with the teachings of Scripture on this most important matter, we will know Him better. As a consequence, the good works to which we were ordained in the new birth will glorify God in His sovereignty.

God's Poiema
Author: Roberta L. Young
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1449726836
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 132
Book Description
You think what you feel; you say what you think. Words are nothing less than expressions of the heart i.e.,..."out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Matthew 12:34. My poetry has its origin from my heart-what I feel (and know), what I have experienced from an intimate relationship with the lover of my soul, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:10 says, "We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." In this verse, the word "workmanship" comes from the Greek root word "poiema" (pronounced poi' a ma), a thing that is made; created; a workmanship, and where we get our word poem. Each one of us has been given gifts, talents, and abilities that enable us to do the "good works" that God "hath before ordained", or planned for us to do "that we should walk in them". We are the ryhthm, the meter of His heartbeat. It is my prayer you will find encouragement, hope, peace, and joy while reading this book of poetry, for I am His workmanship, His poem.

Reflections of God’s Work
Author: Paul McLean
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 145355274X
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 333
Book Description
This work by Paul McLean is a deep weekly devotional that is both introspective and interactive. It is a weekly study as opposed to a daily reading in order to involve the reader on a more contemplative journey into focused biblical issues. By use of a weekly instead of a daily study, this devotional allows an opportunity to go deeper with God by narrowing the reader’s focus on particular biblical principles that impact his or her personal sphere. McLean vigorously maintains that Bible study, deep personal analysis, and prayer are critical anchors in weathering any of life’s storms while at the same time producing Christian growth and maturity. They are also the pillars from which growth, life balance, and fulfillment are achieved. This book is interactive through the use of journaling thoughts, impressions, and messages received through connecting with God’s word (Bible) during the week. Essentially, the reader evaluates his or her life by answering, in journalistic form, pointed and personal life questions. McLean believes that prayer and contemplative study play critical roles in the process of hearing from God. This devotional can also be used as a study guide for group sharing and personal growth. Each chapter touches on insights and personal experiences McLean has encountered in his work as a probation officer and from his involvement in prison ministry. He discovered that by witnessing the transforming power of Jesus Christ in the lives of criminal offenders, he was changed and shaped by God for a higher purpose.

Protecting His Workmanship

Category : Religion

Book Description
This book is an interactive workbook to enable a parent to explain the Biblical purpose and bounds for sexuality to your children. It is set up as a six session, six week study. This project began as a work of love, created by a father for his son. As authors, we pray that it will continue to be a work of love for all those desiring a contemporary, biblical tool with which to begin (or continue) revealing to their teen or pre-teen the beauty, mystery, and wonder of God's design and purposes for marriage and sexual intimacy. This includes Christian families, youth workers and mentors, pregnancy resource centers, and even those who do not yet know Christ, but who could discover His love and holiness in these pages. As parents, we want our children to take personal ownership of biblical values not just because this is what we have taught them, but because their own study of God's Word convinces them that His design for human sexuality is truly best. As our first son reached adolescence, we wanted to build into him a deep conviction of the importance of sexual purity in singleness and sexual faithfulness in marriage so that he would be well-equipped to live out the truths of God's Word in today's contrary culture. To do this, we needed a resource founded solidly on Scripture which would facilitate both family discussion and personal study by our teen. We also wanted to share information on sex in a way that would set a pattern for regular, continuing interaction with our children as they grow and develop through their teen years. Ideally, you will have been leading your child to a biblical understanding of sex and marriage in everyday life from early childhood. The earlier you lay the foundation for the explicit discussion of these topics in adolescence, the easier it will be for your teen to internalize God's perspective on these topics instead of the world's. If your relationship with your teen is weak or strained, now is the time to seek healing and restoration. The time you have left with him in your home is quickly disappearing. And his willingness to listen to and accept your instruction will likely only be in proportion to the strength of your relationship.
