Book Description
Sooner or later even a semi- literate conscious mind contemplates life from the perspective of the grizzled face staring back from the bathroom mirror. "How did this happen?" "I was having fun and all of a sudden. . . " Reece Roth, the main character of this work of fiction is a fifty something guy who found that mirror. Recently divorced again (he has lost count of how many times) he has enough life left in him to scream back at his reflection: "Hell no, not yet!" Obviously this last bit of hubris generates much laughter among the gods, as well as a humorous commitment to show him who's boss. This book is nothing more than an offering to all those who cling stubbornly to their own sense of dignity. As in particle physics, energy manifests and extinguishes a thousand times in the blink of an eye. As in Nature, fairness seems random and detached from mankind's childish notions of justice. As any old person swaddled in blankets sitting by a window at an old folks home will tell you, life itself is a side slapping illusion.

Book Description
If you are inquisitive about prayer or are dissatisfied with your prayer life, Prayer: God’s Invitation to Relationship can direct you toward contemporary and historical accounts that will show you how God’s kingdom grows as people pray, transforming individuals and situations. Through these explorations and a number of practical tools, you too can build a prayer habit and kick-start your prayer life. In Prayer: God’s Invitation to Relationship, author Paul Holt explores individual prayer as a means of responding to God’s call to connect with Him as Father and Friend. Beginning with a review of Jesus’s instructions to his disciples about praying (“whenever you pray”), Holt draws upon a wide range of Christian source material to illustrate individual prayer as a means of building a relationship with God. He draws attention to the God who longs for his people to pray so that he can bring blessing. Four threads of our growing relationship through prayer are identified, including openness and honesty, attentive listening, partnership and transformation.

Book Description
The Greek Poetry of Summons and Invitation assembles and studies for the first time the numerous poetic invitations and summonses of Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic Greece. These poems and passages come from epic, lyric, dramatic, epigrammatic, and epigraphic sources. Most of them are by celebrated Greek poets ― Homer, Sappho, Alcaeus, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, Theocritus, Callimachus, Apollonius, among others. Analysis of this poetic corpus associates it with the ‘kletikon’, an ancient rhetorical genre of content, and reveals everywhere in it the commonplaces of that genre, thus allowing new sub-types of the kletikon to be discovered, and the development of the genre over the centuries to be charted. When individual invitations and summonses are viewed against this generic background, their originality and merits emerge along with their poets’ unique voices. Each summons and invitation is presented, translated, discussed in detail, and, when part of a longer work, linked to its context. This volume is directed to scholars and students of Classics; scholars of the Latin equivalent genre, the ‘vocatio’, which persisted into the Renaissance, can also find in it an intellectual model.
