Book Description
In recent years historians in many different parts of the world have sought to transnationalize and globalize their perspectives on the past. Despite all these efforts to gain new global historical visions, however, the debates surrounding this movement have remained rather provincial in scope. Global History, Globally addresses this lacuna by surveying the state of global history in different world regions. Divided into three distinct but tightly interweaved sections, the book's chapters provide regional surveys of the practice of global history on all continents, review some of the research in four core fields of global history and consider a number of problems that global historians have contended with in their work. The authors hail from various world regions and are themselves leading global historians. Collectively, they provide an unprecedented survey of what today is the most dynamic field in the discipline of history. As one of the first books to systematically discuss the international dimensions of global historical scholarship and address a wealth of questions emanating from them, Global History, Globally is a must-read book for all students and scholars of global history.

Book Description
"In the present day, Big Tech is extracting resources from us, transferring and centralizing resources from people to companies. These companies are grabbing our most basic natural resources--our data--exploiting our labor and connections, and repackaging our information to control our views, track our movements, record our conversations, and discriminate against us. These companies tell us this is for our own good, to build innovation and develop new technology. But in fact every time we unthinkingly click "Accept" on a set of Terms and Conditions, we allow our most personal information to be kept indefinitely, repackaged by companies to control and exploit us for their own profit. Each chapter of respected technology scholars Ulises Mejias and Nick Couldry's compelling book opens with a story of an ordinary person going about their life until they come up against technology taking their data: a migrant trying to reach Europe where drones are patrolling borders, a woman in the Philippines working for a software company that takes screenshots of her monitor, a food delivery driver in a Chinese city racing against an algorithm. All of these people could be us; the story of what tech companies are doing is a global story that is impossible to escape. Mejias and Couldry explain why postindustrial capitalism cannot be understood without colonialism, and why race is a critical factor in who benefits from data colonialism, just as it was for historic colonialism. In this searing, cutting-edge guide, two leading global researchers and founders of the concept of data colonialism reveal how history can help us understand the emerging future--and how we can fight back"--

Book Description
In September of 1981, a world conference on alternative fuels enti tled "Methane - Fuel for the Future" was held at Delta I s River Inn in Vancouver, British Columbia. Approximately 500 registrants from over a dozen countries attended the two day meeting. There were 20 invited papers which form the basis of this volume. The conference itself was inspired by the "energy crisis". This crisis was not seen in terms of any real shortage of oil in the -near term, although an end to conventional oil could be seen on the horizon. Rather, it was perceived as an artificial crisis, precipitated by OPEC, but one which required urgent and effective solutions. Not everyone will agree that urgent action is required to meet the "energy crisis". Indeed, as this volume goes to press, the media are advising that a global glut of oil exists and that price reductions will inevitably ensue. The OPEC production rate has slipped from 31 million barrels a day shortly before the 1973 oil embargo, to a current rate of less than 20 million barrels a day. The non-Communist world now depends upon OPEC for less than half of its oil requirements versus 70 per cent only a decade ago.
