Geological-seismological Evaluation of Earthquake Hazards at Surry Mountain Damsite, New Hampshire
Author: E. L. Krinitzsky
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Dam safety
Languages : en
Pages : 100
Book Description
Seismic zones were developed for southeastern New England based on geological and geophysical data and on historic seismicity. Each zone was assigned a floating maximum earthquake and earthquake motions were attenuated from their sources to the site. The site was found to be subject to a local earthquake (acceleration 0.16 g, velocity 13 cm/sec, and duration> or = 0.05 g of 4 sec) and a Cape Ann earthquake (acceleration 0.13 g, velocity 13 cm/sec, and duration> or = 0.05 g of 4 sec). Accelerograms and response spectra appropriate to these values were selected.

Pages : 166
Book Description
Seismic zones were developed for northern New England based on geological and geophysical data and on historic seismicity. Each zone was assigned a floating maximum earthquake and earthquake motions were attenuated to the site fron their sources. The site was found to be subject to a local earthquake (acceleration 0.15 g, velocity 27 cm/sec, and duration> or = 0.5 g of 9 sec) and an earthquake originating from the Ossipee area (acceleration 0.38 g, velocity 25 cm/sec, and duration> or = 0.05 g of 6 sec). Accelerograms and response spectra appropriate to these values were selected.

Geological-seismological Evaluation of Earthquake Hazards at Hartwell and Clemson Upper and Lower Dams, South Carolina
Author: E. L. Krinitzsky
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Clemson Dam (S.C.)
Languages : en
Pages : 272
Book Description
Seismic source zones have been developed for the southeastern United States that are based on the geology and historic seismicity. A floating earthquake was assigned to each source zone and earthquake motions were attenuated to Hartwell and Clemson Upper and Lower Dams. A maximum credible earthquake at each dam is a far field, MM VII (M = 5.5) earthquake. Horizontal ground motions for this earthquake are as follows: acceleration 190 cm/sec2, velocity 14 cm/sec, and duration 11 sec. Acceleration and response spectra appropriate to these values were selected and are included. Where vertical motions are considered, they may be taken at two-thirds of the horizontal. Keywords: Clemson upper and lower dams, Earthquake motions, Earthquakes, Hartwell dams Seismic zoning. (SDW).

Book Description
A seismic zoning was developed for eastern Pennsylvania and adjacent states based on the geology and the historic seismicity. Floating earthquakes were assigned to those zones in the absence of identifiable active faults. At the Prompton and Francis E. Walter Damsites, motions were far field, Modified Mercalli VI, acceleration 0.12g, velocity 7 cm/sec, and 3 sec bracketed duration> or = 0.05g. Accelerograms and response spectra appropriate to these parameters were selected.
