TRY (FREE for 14 days), OR RENT this title: www.wileystudentchoice.com Europe is the second-smallest of the continents, yet it is the third most populated—and its rich history has played out on the world's maps for centuries. The region's borders have undergone near-continuous evolution through the rise and fall of nations, rebellions, and civilizations, and the paths these borders take have repercussions around the globe. This book presents a systematic survey of Europe and individual country-by-country coverage based on the most current data. From the core of the European Union to the lesser-known corners of the continent, this book provides in-depth examination of the physical, cultural, economic, and political geography of this powerful region. Fresh perspective sheds new light on recent events including Brexit, Russia's takeover of Crimea, terrorist attacks in France, and the EU's newest members, while the European Union's future is explored in light of the possible loss of the region’s second-largest economy. With deep insight into each nation and its relationship to the region, this book offers a uniquely intimate look at the various dynamics shaping Europe today.

Book Description
A Historical Geography of Europe provides an analytical and explanatory account of European historical geography from classical times to the modern period, including the vast changes to landscape, settlements, population, and in political and cultural structures and character that have taken place since 1500. The text takes account of the volume of relevant research and literature that has been published over the past two or three decades, in order to achieve a coverage and synthesis of this very broad range of evidence and opinion, and has tried to engage with many of the main themes and debates to give a clear indication of changing ideas and interpretations of the subject.

Book Description
Excerpt from Geography of Europe In this volume I have sought to present a general geographical sketch of Europe, and of the various States into which it is divided. In the case of each country the physical features arc first described; then an attempt is made to mark the stages of its history, so far as they are related to geography. Next I have brought together some of the leading facts relating to government, population and national character, religion and education, and industry and trade. Finally, an account is given of the principal towns, these being generally grouped under the historic divisions to which they respectively belong. For the reason stated in the text, only a short chapter on the British Isles has been written. This may suffice to show how closely Great Britain is associated with the Continent, with which it was at one time connected by land. It is usually the tendency of young learners to suppose that the political geography of to-day must have been the political geography of all past times.
